I understand that the TRIAXIS has op amps in it, but Boogie heads do not have op amps.

Does the Quad have op amps in it? What about the Studio Pre?

Thanks!

The SP has no opamps, but the EQ is a discrete transistor circuit.

Some Mesa heads have opamps, like the F50, in the reverb and record circuits.

Thanks for the info Elvis.

I spoke with Chris @ Mesa, and he said that the Triaxis was the only preamp that had op amps in it.

I was looking at getting a TRI but am worried about losing some organicness. I had a Studio Pre & loved it, but I couldn't handle not having 2 real channels w/ eq.

The op amps don't harm the tone of the Triaxis unless they start to fail. I wouldn't even consider the op amps if you are evaluating the Triaxis. It's very much a tube amp when you hear it. The Marshall JMP 1 and ADA preamps have a lot of solid state circuitry - doesn't mean a lot of players don't like them though. The simple answer is, make sure you are listening with your ears and not your mind which can get obsessed with technical concerns.

Ando described it perfectly. Why worry about losing some subtle tone aspect - just try the thing.

As I understand it, the TA has opamps to buffer the FX send and recording out, both of which will almost certainly be used to run solid-state gear anyway, so opamps are unavoidable. The TA main outs do not have opamps.

Thanks for the replies guys. I'm getting some money together & will be getting a new preamp soon. My 20/20 needs a companion. :D
