Pulling tubes?

If I wanted to pull some tubes out of a Roadster to decrease the volume which ones would I pull, power or preamp or both? What is the minimum number of tubes I could safely use?

I found that using only two Yellowjackets and Spongy brought the volume down to a decent practice level but I'd like to try one EL-34 or 6L6 with one Yellowjacket.

Doesnt the roadster have an option to select between 50-100watts??? If so then 50 watts is the minimum because your amp requires a pair of tubes and one pair of 6l6's generates 50 watts

No need to pull tubes with the Roadster, just use the 50W setting. BTW 50W IS NOT half as loud as 100W. It's about a 3dB difference. The change is really in response and dynamics.

No can do. A class AB amp like the Roadster requires pairs of the same type to operate (either 2 pair EL34 or 2 pair 6L6). I do not believe you can safely run just one yellow jacket adapter with just one EL34 or 6L6.

no, it's a push/pull power design so you cannot use one tube.

also, pulling tubes will not decrease the volume by any noticeable amount.

The pulling tubes thing started by guys who wanted there non-master Marshall 100's to start getting some grind on say 7, as opposed to 10.

Haha yeah, a blanket may the way to go! I'm just trying to bring the volume down as much as possible, because right now I'm playing my Spider III almost exclusively. I may just have to suck it up and run the amp on Spongy and 50 watt.

Which tubes are selected when 50 watts is chosen? I ask because I'm wondering if I use the Yellowjackets with 2 EL34s, will 50 watt be all YJ and 100 watt YJ/EL34 or vice versa?
