I always wondered about these. Is there any way to adjust the intonation on the PRS stoptails like whats on the McCarty models? It does not appear that any intonation adjustment is possible on these....

There is an adjustable version.. the default you can adjust but nowhere near like a tune-o-matic. There are two screws on the inside that a small provided allen wrench can fit it for a pseduo-intonation.

Ahh...That kinda blows, so if i wanted to use different gauge strings than what PRS puts on them, or if i opt to use a diferent tuning than standard, I can forget about having good intonation. Disapointing for a guitar that costs that much. I mean, the vintage Telecasters have the 3 saddle bridges, but thats part of what gives vintage Tele's that vibe. I'll just stick with Les Pauls with tune-a-matics....

As Platypus stated, PRS does sell an adjustable bridge/tailpiece. I know PRS has built some guitars with a separate tailpiece and adjustable bridge, ala the traditional Gibson solidbody setup. I don't know, though, if you'd have to order a Private Stock guitar to get that setup.

I have the PRS McCarty with the non-adjustable stoptail and have absolutely NO problems with intonation. (plus, she's purrrrty)

Typically PRS are quite flexible between 9 / 10 / 11 strings with adjustable intonation even on the hard tail. See the attached link on the PRS web site for set up instructions.

I have three PRS with only one having adjustable bridge (Gibbo style) however I know that they do supply these as a spare part for around $120 in the US. Have a look at:

If you're interested in PRS there is a good owners forum at:

There are a ton of articles on bridge/ types/ intonation.

Hope this helps some.

She is purrrrty Red...

I agree, I've changed from 9's to 10's with no issue on my Custom 22. I really don't like the tone I get from 9's and the 10's give a bit more warmth and girth to the notes.

The bridge is really nice... you'll find it works quite well.
