I currently have a Sovtek 12AX7 LPS in V2 of my Triple Rectifier. I have heard that this particular tube may die quickly and potentially cause damage to the amp IF the amp has a cathode follower stage.

Will my Triple Rec be subjected to this? Does it have a cathode follower stage?

Thanks.

Sounds like an internet scare story to me. They are great tubes and don't die suddenly anymore than any other tube might !! :D

Nah. You're fine. The LPS is a good tube.

I especially dig it in the PI position!

OP, you are right. Some tubes will not stand the punishment of cathode follower stage, LPS being one of them. Mesa has even issued a memo about this. No internet scare here. Refer to this thread below.

According to the above thread, in a TR cathode follower stage is in V3 and V4. So long as you don't put the LPS in either V3 or V4 you should be fine.
