Hello folks,

What is the cheapest/easiest way to get an old school preamp, like say a Mesa Boogie Studio Preamp, into your computer's DAW. Do you run the line out directly into PC then use an impulse? Or do you need a special interface like a M Audio type of device.

Is this the recommended way?

I've never had good luck trying to run a line in right into the sound card. Not sure why it doesn't work so well. I use an M-Audio Fast Track ($100 at best buy) that works pretty well, can basically plug anything line or guitar level into it, Mic(XLR) or Line in(1/4).

When using this, it basically takes over as your PC's sound card.
