I've bid on it twice, but as I said before, someones max bid was higher than mine. But I'm going to stop bidding for about 5 days... ;)

I want a pre500 sooo badlyy. I'm sure this obsession will be very unhealthy until I finally get one.

Again, its definately worth it...If you have other old gear sitting around, I'd sell some of it to come up with the money for this thing. Blackfaced PRE500's don't come around that often.

In belgium theres a guy selling # 162, export one.

If youre thinking about australian amps you might consider that one too.

What's the difference between blackface pres and standard pre500s?

blackface refers to the blackdiamond plate on the front of the amp. Blackdiamond plate and Chrome Chassis were both upgrades that you could get at the time (and I believe you can still get on the newer models as well). So any differences between the blackface pre500's and the standard pre500's is purely cosmetic...but as Elpelotero said, the blackfaces just look cooler 8)

someone asked me this question about my pre-500 and i don't know the answer.... any guesses?

HI ! I would like to know if it has the channel assignable effect loop feature like the newer models ? hav you ever tried this feature and does it work good ? i'm looking for a new DR because the one l own has a problem, the effects leek a bit on the channel on wich i'm not supposed to have any effect

i've never tried that feature and i've never tried that feature on a new one either

anyone know?

Who has #442?

EDIT
I found #442 but it was in Australia and the bidding has already ended.

There is this one on EBAY but it is #792. Does this one belong to someone on this board?

I lost this one right at the end!!

I was thinking on bidding for #792 but I decided to save my money to bid on #203.

At $2200 I will have to pass on bidding.

It would be different if I had a chance to try the amp but I can't see myself spending $2200+ on an amp without being able to try it.

Sorry reggiesfriend, please do not take this personal, it is just the way I conduct business.

I am sure it is a nice amp but at the same time I wonder if it really sounds as good as the hype.

Why?

I recently tried a mint condition fully loaded Mark IIC+ head. I played with it for an hour and a half or so and, although it is a nice sounding amp, it is no where near as good as the hype it gets on this board (as well as other boards). For the price that the Mark IIC+'s are selling for, I would much rather spend the money on a Bogner Ecstasy or an Soldano SLO100, which, in my opinion, are much better sounding amps than the Mark IIC+ (taking into account the price).

^^ how was it set up? A C+ not set up properly or played at very high volumes (like 8 or 9 out of 10 on the knob) will not get you the saturated sounds metallica is famous for.

How can this (or the C+) live up to the hype? People get worked into a frenzy to get one because of threads here, not the sound. Many of the people that want one have never played one but expect to have a magical experience when they plug in. Usually they find out it is just a regular amp. They may sound great but not to everyone. For the inflated price you get a nice amp but mainly bragging rights.

$2000-$3000+ for a pre-500 or C+ puts them in the "vintage guitar & amp" market for me. The price isn't going to go down. There are plenty of people that will pay this all day long. You have to choose to jump in and participate or watch & complain from the sidelines.

I'm sure there a ton of players that agree with this, however, the amps you mention are not collectable - maybe one day, but not now. Yes, these old blackface duals have already entered the vintage/collectable market. Hype does contribute to the price, yes. But, these are superb amps and as someone said, the value is going UP, not down.

It's economics 101, supply and demand. Out of the first 500 Duals, some were not blackface, some were export models, etc. so there are less than 500 blackface/chome duals availabe in U.S. voltage, etc.

I watched this one in the dying seconds... My max bid was going to be only $1200. I was going to snipe it in the dying seconds.. but it was over $1300 when I was ready to bid... so I passed.

The IIC+ and Pre500 DR's are both great amps, that mesa didn't make enough of. To me, both amps sound incredible....however, neither amp is "perfect"(if such a thing exists). If you go into buying any amp with the expectation of a zen experience, you are destined to be disappointed. I am sure that if there were only 500 Bogner Ecstacy's floating around that their price would rise as well. On a seperate note, I think it will be interesting to see what a regular Pre500 (ie. black chassis/aluminium diamond plate) will go for the next time one pops up on ebay.

Well Johnson...

You might get that chance REAL soon depending on how this one shakes down!

I actually entered a bid of $2,307.00 seconds too late. Oh well I don't really need it. I know that's a boatload of cash, I'm surprised it didn't go for more. These days I'm happy with this bedroom tone rig!!
