Scrapinger, is that a Kahler in your Les Paul?

I used to own a 1981 Cherry Sunburst Gibson LP with a Kahler that I sold about 14 years ago.

I've always wondered if being close to a big ceramic magnet, like, say, a guitar cab, does any good to a pickup's magnet ;)
No worries! I only did it for the pics. You think it could damage? I do see my singer do it sometimes.

I am not sure it would damage, I have never had evidence of that. What I know for sure is that:

1) magnets are made by putting a piece of magnetic alloy into a bigger magnet :)
2) I once had an old CRT monitor which needed degaussing each time I left my 4x12 too close to it

bryan_kilco, have you actually played a MM Petrucci? There really is no other guitar out there like it. It has a very unique feel.

+1. It has all the features I would design in a guitar. Even if it did not have his name on it I would love it. I took notice of it because he played it at first, but after I played it I fell in love with the GUITAR. One of the best necks available on a guitar if you ask me. The forearm scoop is extremely comfortable, and the new CrunchLab/LiquiFire pickup set (which I installed in mine recently) sound amazing. I also love the Mystic Dream finish I chose.

Agreed! The tone is very modern, crisp, and focused. Add a push/pull pot like I did and you've got even more stratty tones than just the stock middle position. Plus, Ive also got the BFR middle position with both hums on. :D

my noise makers.

Blackstar! I've had my eye on one for a while now. how do the tones compare to that of a Mark IV. I recon there is no comparison with regards to the low-end of the Mark, but what about other respects like the gain for example? Is it a very middy amp? Thanks!

the tones a tad crunchier as far as gain. to alot of dudes, you wouldnt even need an overdrive, but i still like throw one on to smooth it out. theres more gain than any one dude needs, when you play the amp as its pictured, the bass does not stand up to the IV, but when you plug the blackstar head into the recto, it is sheer heaven, boomy like a dual rec, i was a-effin-mazed! you would not guess it is a 5 watt amp, cuz its so loud. my guess would be a 40 watt if i didnt know it was 5 (and that was only half volume). its almost as loud as the 50 watt jcm900 head at the rehearsal studio (no joke! although i still dont understand how haha). it is a very middish amp which i love, the ISF knob allows you to get uk to american and anywhere in between tones. and as you use bigger speakers/cabs, you see that you dont need as much bass. i havent even used the clean channel yet haha. id say go for it, but they just jumped in price cuz so many people love the ht-5. oh and the direct out kicks ***.

man, i notice a LOT of you guys are rocking the JP guitars and whatnot....Petrucci love much??!!?! 8)

I dont mean to sound rude or anything....but maybe I dont understand what is so special about those guitars. I can understand being unfluenced by good tone, but why get the same exact stuff as the the guy who made the impact, rather than finding what works better for you?

I would say pretty much because they are fantastic guitars... Not just for the name on it...
