So I've had my LSC head now (100/50/10w) for about 3 months playing it through a JDesign 2x12 w/ 2 ceramic Tone Tubbies, and I can't seem to find the sound I want. When I received the head from the eBayer (I know, I know, I bought it before playing it), the bias switch was in EL34 mode. The seller did remove all the tubes prior to shipping (which were 6L6s) and neatly and carefully bubble wrap them so perhaps he bumped the switch then.

My concern is that when I don't have any sound coming through my amp (tuner on or hand muting the strings) I hear small quiet popping sounds coming from my cab. The impedance is correct and its matched correctly to the amp (8 ohm), and it makes me nervous. I did not play the amp with 6L6s in it on the EL34 bias setting because I caught it prior to powering her up. Anyone ever come across a situation like this with quiet popping sounds coming through their LSC without any sound going through? I doubt it could be a bad cable.

My secondary concern is I'm not getting the big full tone out of it I had hoped to achieve. I'm assuming a big part is the fact that I'm limited to lower volume levels though I am using the 10 watt setting. It seems like the amp isn't "opening up" – it seems reserved. I had a similar situation with a 65 Twin Reverb RI amp where it seemed reserved and held back, and I solved it by bringing up the EQ proportionately. I seem somewhat limited in my EQ because my Epiphone Sheraton is a fairly warm and dark guitar, so EQing a balanced sound means the bass and mids are rolled back to 10 o'clock-ish. I'm concerned that maybe the previous owner had the amp fired up on the EL34 bias while running 6L6s and maybe that has contributed to my sound issues.

Any and all suggestions and comments are welcome!

Not heard the popping sounds on mine, so cannot offer an explanation to that issue

I play mostly through the 10W setting, and it is "darker" than 50 / 100W until you adjust the EQ slightly in trebble / presence AND tweak the output with the channel master. Opens the amp up nicely from sparkly cleans to grunt and grind

As with all mesa amps, tweaking brings significant reward. Its in there somewhere, but you need to learn how to find it in my experience

Good luck
