And it was kick ***! It may be my next amp. It surely was one the best sounding amps I think i've ever played...but its not an insane gain type of amp like the rectifiers etc. but the tonality of this amp was fuckin unbelievable. clean, low gain, med gain, high gain...all amazing honestly. its hard to describe and it sounds cliche but the amp just had so much "tone." i liked it better than the lonestar's i've previously played and tbh i liked it better than the mark iv i had.

honestly it can still handle some metal depending on how much gain you really need. it sounded pretty hot with emgs running through it...kind of like a more pleasing jcm 800 with balls. If you put the volume on the electradyne at like 3:00 it's like having a rectifier's gain on about 1:30, which is more than enough gain for me anyway. it has the gain but the tone/natural eq curve is not like ultra brutal/modern so metal on it might not be an ideal choice but it certainly is plausible depending on your tastes.

but one shouldn't buy this amp with the sole intention of playing metal, it does literally everything else soooo well. if i can take my dual rec 2 channel and make channel 1 the electrdayne and leave channel 2 modern red it would probably be the best amp ever made.

I just played one today too...and If it wasn't that I was placing an order for a custom MK V combo with matching cab, I would have pulled the trigger. I was very impressed with the amp. A simple layout, with an abundance of great tones. IMO the cleans are better for my taste than the LSC....

Definitely, in my "Must Buy" list in the near future.

Great sounding amp! I like the clean sound with the volume cranked in the demo.

If you liked the Electradyne you'd love my Orange which is the amp they based it on.

IMO there are only 3-4 amp lines that have had their designs cloned/based upon: Fender, Marshall, Vox (specifically the AC30); to a lesser extent, Hi-Watt. Though a great amp company, I seriously doubt Mesa is basing their designs on an Orange....JMO. :?

The Orange is a great amp, but it's really not all that similar to the electrodyne.

First I talked to the guy I deal with at boogie before they even released the electradyne who swore me to secrecy but told me it was basically the Lonestar clean with an Orange style dirty channel.

Second, I put the two side by side and A/B'd them and they're almost identical except my orange is possibly a tad bit more touch sensitive.

I'm not saying Mesa copied the preamp circuitry but they did specifically say they were going for that fatter warmer Orange style sound way before the Electradyne came out. Plus, as I said, when I played them side by side they sounded almost identical on the drive channel. The cleans were really different. I'm not sure which I preferred. I love the lonestar style clean but I love my orange clean as it's much more expressive and dynamic.

EDIT: I should mention that when I compared the two amps I had 6L6's in my Orange so that's probably why they sounded so much alike. With EL-34's in my Orange it's somewhat different but then the Electradyne takes EL-34's as well.

Both great amps IMO.

I will say that the Electradyne is probably better built but the Orange gets props for monster transformers...

I'm not buying it  Mesa modeling their tone after an Orange

Attention Strat and Tele owners...this amp sounds like it was designed for Strat/Tele bridge pickups. I love the tones from
the bridge...the warmth and darkness of the amp works really well with these. FYI....

Have you ever plugged into an orange?

Dude....I meant it as a joke.... And I have ...played an Orange both the RV50 & 100

The day I bought my Lonestar I was seriously considering an Orange. Played through both the Boogie and a bunch of oranges (pardon the pun) for a LONG time and the LSC sounded better, was better built and was a better bargain than any of the orange amps. Had I gone the other way I'd be on some Orange Forum! hahahahaaa....
2 yrs later and I am SOOOOOOOOO glad I went with the LSC!

NOW I want a ED!!!!

Anyone want to trade their ED for my LSC? ;)

Gotcha... The 'dyne seems to be the better amp for sure. I'm sure it's built better but it's awfully "Orangey" on the drive settings.

I just sold my Rockerverb and picked up a '74 Marshall Superlead so I'll be doing classic VH sounds for a while. I've still got my boogie stuff tho...
