I have a Dimarzio SD in neck and X2N in bridge in an old SG. There is a little musicality lost in the tone of the X2N. After trading out pups in a few guitars over the years I have to agree with the others that posted saying that when using an amp with master volume and lots of gain, like we purveyors of Boogie goodness, go for tone and not so much gain.

Now I just need a good set of warmer pups for my old Ibanez Sabre.....

^ that SG must have had a ridiculous amount of output.

I'm hooked on DiMarzios. They seem to have more clarity and just as much tone as Duncans, PRS, Gibson, and other passive pickups, although you can't beat the harmonics of the original Gibson pups in a 335. (Especially through a Lonestar.) Now, as for the smaller companies, like Bare Knuckle and Bill Lawrence and the like, I haven't had any experience with them so I can't say. That, and Suhr make some stellar single-coils.
