Pickups are suppose to capture the harmonic field (strings vibration).
I mean they don't capture audio ! Do they ?
So if they don't capture audio why when strings become older there is a lost of treble ?
I think I made myself clear.

thanks

strings are made of steel/nickel and their vibration leads to a modulation of the magnetic field generated by the pickup or something like this. I don't know if it is the right answer, but it could be that older string are not pure steel/nickel, but they have started to oxidize (is this term right in english???) and then they might impress a different modulation to the magnetic field...
