im about to replace the stock pickups in my carvin with an air norton (neck) and a d sonic at the bridge. it looks like the stock pots are 500k, so i should be ok with just leaving them in and swapping the pups, right? i've also read reviews where guys said they had the bar in the d sonic facing the neck, i was just wondering how you can tell which way the pup is supposed to sit? i've always though that the point where the wires exit the coils should go down towards the hole routed for the wires. just want to check with someone who knows more about this than i do at the moment. thanks guys

A lot of 7 string players like having the D sonic bar on the bridge side....I guess it makes things a little tighter sounding.

I personally dont use Dimarzio so can't tell you if that is the case from my own experience.

i'd usually agree with your way of using wire placement to decide the orientation. but just look at a pic of petrucci's guitar and youll see the bar on the neck side of the pickup.

Dimarzio's website has a paragraph on the D-Sonic description about this subject.
