can you flip this switch on the fly, or is it advised to do it while the amp is off?

Hey Bud!

It's perfectly fine to, "switch", "on the fly".

I've had my Mark 5 since early june, and had done so with no probelms what so ever. And isn't it a cool feature?

But triode for me though all the way! :)

Yeah, Mark IV user and I switch on the fly. But when I switched on the fly from class A to simul-class, there was a big pop sound. I wont do it ever again!

BTW, triode for me too. What's the difference between the two in layman's language? :|

If I remember correctly the Mark V manual does a pretty good job of explaining the operational and audible differences in a very easy to understand fashion (towards the end of the manual I believe.

I only use triode when playing in IIC+ mode and found pentode to be better for Mk 4 and Extreme. Just my taste though, to each their own.

An off-topic question...

Is the MK V's two channels for true metal tones unlike the mk iv? Or is R2 still for blues/hard rock type tones? the r3 has mkii, mkiv and its obvious its for metal. :)

I'm confused by what you mean by "true metal". Mark Series amps have been used by metal bands from Metallica to Lamb of God. Not sure what you're getting at.

Are you asking can channel 2 do metal? If so I guess that would again depend on what your definition of metal is. I can get some decent 80's metal sounds from it. Priest. Maiden, Crue, etc...

However to get even closer to those period sounds I use a MI Audio Crunch Box. The pedal is made to get you high gain JCM800/900 type sounds.

i have my crunch set up and it mimics my vht pitbull cl100 that i use to have. so yeah it c an do metal as well as blues
