Peavey 6505 112 60W 1x12" Tube Combo Guitar Amp

anybody tried this? seems like a good deal @ $599. very heavy @ 65 lbs.

how do these sound at quieter volumes, I'm looking for a small combo for a small room in my house. thx.

Yeah, I got a couple of good long sitdowns at my local shop. The clean channel is not really to die for, but it's still tube goodness and something to work with, ya know. Lead/crunch channel is your standard issue 6505; gobs of gain, crunch, and oomph with an incredibly versatile presence function. It sounds exactly like the 6505 in a small package - It can do what you expect it to if 60 watts is all you need. Side note: the channel switching button had a tendency to get stuck inside the chassis so a footswitch would be a must. I'd say totally worth the cash in the price range if the Valveking isn't your spice.

Mark IV was good about that (crank the gain and play a E7#9, if you can hear all the tones/notes, then you're good.) My JMP-1 with hi gain settings gets mushy...

I sat down with this amp at Guitar Center. The distortion on the crunch channel sounded SOOOO good that I figured it must be broken. There was no sizzle fizziness that is present with the other 6505's... It was raw and brutal and amazing. In fact I immediately joked to one of the GC sales people and to my friend that was with me that it must be broken.... Turns out IT WAS! The clean channel was fine but the lead channel had something goofy going on with it. Although it sounded great it didnt get louder than bedroom volume. Clean could blow your ears off though.

Anyways, I have a 5150 head and bought the 6505+1x12 for home use. Now, i've always been a fan of the regular models and not the + models but for some reason the 6505+1x12 green channel is SUPERIOR to any other tone. I don't know why, but boosted it is such a f/cking BEAST, and very clear (as long as you keep the gain below 6).

The amp truly is a bargain at 600 bucks man. It can do decent low volume playing (i'd say garage over room playing) and it can go all out nuts for small bars/clubs. The important thing is you must change out the speaker, i went ahead right away and dropped a v30 in there.

It's an excellent excellent combo deal man. my local guitar center can't keep them in stock. soon as one comes in, it's out the door a day later.

I have a Fender SCXD that is ok for cleans but I don't like all the distortion models. There are no 12AX7's either AFAIK so it's a hybrid with 6V6.

Anyways, what tones/music styles is the 6505 112 with V30 capable of? RHCP, RATM, Jane's Addiction, etc.??? Most of these tones are EL34, etc.

Considering both Dave Navarro and Tom Morello loved using Marshall JCM800's you should probably just go with that if that's what you're looking for.

The 6505/6505+ line can do those late Van Halen tones real well and stuff like that http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=57CHIaJPONE&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WANdT1WEDGk but they are mostly used by bands like In Flames(pretty much all swedish metal) , Machine Head, Black Dahlia Murder, Trivium, etc. for high gain maddness.

I tried another one... this time I tried one that was 100% working order and I must say I was very impressed. This amp has a ton of gain and sounds really bad ***!! Gets super loud and can handle any type of metal thrown at it.
I'd consider this amp a bargain at $600.

rabies bro if you have $600 to spend you can definitely find a used tiny terror and a good boost for it... still pretty loud for wife/baby use, though.

I basically don't practice much anymore (1-2 per wk max). So it's when they leave the house I crank with Rivera in lowVoltage/triode/mono and 212 GBenz...

The S120 is incredibly flexible...

I had a chance to play it this weekend and I actually didn't like how the distortion sounded with the gain above 6. Sounded really messy, but it had a really nice crunch. I'm going to go back and hook my Mesa 212 up to it, see how much beefier it sounds. For the price, it might be worth it to pick it up!

Past 6 you mean? Of course it's going to sound messy, how high was the post gain? This thing has an ungodly amount of gain dude. Pushing the gain past 6 (especially at low volumes) will result in just mush. Try keeping it at around 5,5.5 and see how that goes.

I don't even touch the red channel on this thing, i keep it on green (with crunch engaged) and i boost it with an od pedal. My pregain is usually 5.5 and the post around 6.

Yes, I realized that two seconds after I had the gain at 6. I immediately turned it down to 5, which sounded good for punk and hardcore, which is all I really care about. For metal...yeah, I'd throw an OD in front of it to tighten things up.
