It is always best to run proper ohms, 16 into 16, however you can get away with running 8 into 16 and it will smooth the sounds out a little, make it a little less aggresive. Just never run higher into lower and you will be fine, newer mesa amps are pretty forgiving though as randall smith designs them that way to accomidate the half power switches.
