Still using the LPB-1? Just wanted to see if it still is on the board....ever use it in the loop as a solo boost?
I'm still using it! A friend of mine bought one on my recommendation and he said it turned his amp (not a Mesa) into a muddy mess. But to be honest, he dials his amps in alot darker than I do anyway and I think that's the real issue.
You know how when you use a typical OD pedal into an already distorted amp you loose the "bigness" of the sound? Lows are sucked away and the overall tone of the amp changes. Well I hate that. There are very few OD/boost pedals I've tried that don't do that and this LPB1 is one of them.
If I'm on the Vintage Hi mode with the preamp gain around 2:00 o'clock and want a little more juice, I can stomp on the LPB1 with it's knob set to 9:00-10:00 o'clock and it still sounds like the amp, but with more distortion. It basically sounds like another mode on the amp to me and NOT a pedal. I dig it!
I use an MXR 10-band EQ pedal in the loop for lead volume boosts, so I've never tried the LPB1 that way. But you know what? I'm tempted to get another one to see how it works. I usually set the sliders flat on my EQ pedal anyway and just use it for a volume increase. If the LPB1 works well that way, it may be a better alternative anyway.
