I was skimming iTunes and picked up Mastodon's Leviathan. I really like it and since I'm kind of stuck in old school mode I'd like to hear what you guys think of some newer stuff.

I'm not big on the growling singers similiar to Lamb of God and Gojira so metal bands that don't follow that vain would be appreciated.

Fire away and thanks as always!

id recommend to look outside of the american metal. finland has been a hotbed of awsome metal bands the past 6yrs or so. also italy has a few good bands. just depends on what aspects of metal you do like.

sonata arctica, elvenking, nocturnal rites, ensiferum, wintersun, norther, children of bodom, sinergy, labyrinth, tyr, kamelot, dragonland, for my pain,

This thread is mistitled, IMO. I came in thinking "omg Linkin Park rulz"

I will have to check out Mastodon. I'm not all that into screaming either, but I do like a lot of metal guitar riffs, so...

I like LOG, but it took time cause of hte growling.. KsE has more singing... I get annoyed at the excessive screaming, but i listed to the bands cause the guitar parts are usually awesome. Then it'll grow on me...

Also does anyone else put the words/lyrics off to the side and listen just to the guitar? I mean usually with the agressive bands it just becomes another instrument to me.. and I put it in the back of my head and just rock out to the riffs... I can probably sing more of the riffs and solo's than the words.

Yeah Finland rocks... In Flames (i think they started our current metal scene here) soilwork... - too much growling for you i think though...

and I too was expecting to see someting on POD or papa roach and there mid 90's nu metal stuff..

you want what they now ter the new wave of american heavy metal.. ooof genre's soooo dumb.

check out "all that remains" their new album has got a bunch of singing on it... but its super "processed" too

um newer Atreyu you might like...

the showdown

and thrice

Mastodon is always good, especially Leviathan. They do a great job of creating their own sound and delivering music that appropriately represents the subject matter.

Haha, yeah this thread isn't about Nu Metal so much as new metal...
If you want some good bands that are newer look into Baroness, Callisto, Isis, Opeth, Dillinger Escape Plan, Between the Buried and Me (alaska), Doomriders, Pelican, and so on and so forth.
