Now that SED's are soo $$$, what else is there?

My mark III is losing its spunk. Time to retube. What are the killer power tubes out there now that SEDs are outta my reach. I see theyve come down a bit. JJ's are OK. Im loving the chinese ruby el34s in my recto. How about in a MArk III?

my christ, i'm seeing 150-200 dollars for a quad of SED Winged C's now!! I paid well under 100 for..like 80 bones for my quad, maybe like 8 months ago.

I was just about to buy a pair of =C='s , asked the seller a Q, and then he raised the price almost $10. I bought NOS Sylvanias instead for like $20 more. Mesa tubes are good. I have a quad of them in my C+. I retubed my 2:90 about 6 months ago with Sovtek 6L6 WXT+'s. they were $102 for 8 of them (eBay). super cheap, but pretty good sounding. I would consider tung sol 6L6gc as well.

how are your preamp tubes? I like tung sol 12ax7's also. dying to try RFT 12ax7.

The preamp tubes are probably due as well. I like jjs in 1-3 and lps's in 4-5. Probably due the same thing. I think Im going to try the ruby EL34BHTs. They rule in my Tverb. I think I like the better than the SEDs. Now i need 6L6s. When I bought the amp I had TAD 6L6s and JJ 34s in it. I didnt like it that much. Ive used the JJ E34L a few times with it along with SED 6L6s and it was cool. All SED was the best with this amp though. Im not spending that kinda ching on them though.

that's one thing I wouldn't cheap out on personally....if you like the SED C's the most, buy em..if it's mesa STR 415's you are after, get em..you bought a Mark II, III or IV for tone..go for it if you ask me!!!

..also places like tubedepot or dougs tubes sell "second hand" SED winged C..they meet all the standards of the new ones, and sell for like half the prices easily.
