I'm using a Nova in the loop of my Mark IV.

The idea was that, with an Amp Gizmo and cable, I could have a simple effects/switching system. To that end, it works very well.

The main issue I have is that the NS significantly attenuates the signal when in the loop. Switching the loop on and off with the NS on (and no effect blocks on) demonstrates the problem. I understand that on the Mark IV, the channel masters are also loop send levels and the Output knob is also a loop return level, but that doesn't help in terms of achieving unity between when the loop is on and when it's off.

The level controls on the NS only help to further attenuate. Anyone using a NS experiencing the same? What are you doing to work around it?

For the most part, I like the NS but it's not perfect. I haven't really tweaked it yet because I'm trying to deal with this level issue first.

Thanks.

Dave

Try turning Advanced mode on from the Levels menu, and then tweak the Input Gain, Output Range, and Boost Max parameters. I didn't have great results using the automatic "unity gain" setting of the Input Gain that is available when Advanced mode is off. Hope this helps.

Ya if you're using the boost function it attenuates the signal so that the boost brings the volume up to normal level. I have problems with the nova making my signal weak when I play at low volumes but when I can crank it up a bit it evens out. Just mess around with the input gain and the adavanced settings. I really want to get a g system for the ability to control the amp switching and effects from one system.

How is the amp gizmo? and how to you have it hooked up to the nova system and the Mark IV?

Yep, setting Boost Max and Input Gain have helped a great deal. Still need to tweak.

The Amp Gizmo and Nova work great as as switching system. The Amp Gizmo plugs into the Mark IV's footswitch cable and then to the Nova via MIDI cable. The custom Mark IV cable between the amp and Gizmo works like this:

Buttons 1, 2 and 3 on the gizmo activate channels R1, R2 and Lead respectively. Button 4 turns on the Lead channel and EQ together. Button 5 turns the loop on and off and button 6 turns the EQ on and off. You set up a patch on the Nova and store it. Then set the gizmo buttons for channel, loop and EQ. Press and hold the Write button on the gizmo and it stores the gizmo settings along with the PC that came from the Nova with the preset. So every time you select that preset on the Nova, the gizmo remembers the channel, etc. You can if you want, create empty presets on the nova (no effects) that just change channels on the Mark IV and turn of the loop as well so it's acting as a footswitch only and the amp is dry.

Thats pretty cool. Is there any lag in channel switching? If you can I'd like to see a demo of that

Well, yes and no. Let me explain. The NS footswitch buttons don't "engage" on the downstroke. They work on the upstroke. So you need to press and hold a preset button for a second in order to tell it you want to load that preset. You'll see a message in the display that the preset is ready to load. Then, when you release the button, the preset is activated. When you release, the preset is instant but it takes a second with the button down to get there.
