Sure you've all seen this, still... this tone is HUGE

It's still funnier when people throw **** at them.

Kroeger actualy does a pretty good Hetfield. I think I'd rather hear him covering Metallica than Hetfield covering country tunes.

I hate nickelback and everything they stand for, cause they are indeed fake heros, but i cant deny that they must do something right to be able to release an album that sales 9 million in the us.

basically what they do right is

1) they don't overestimate the musical sophistication of their audience, and
2) write songs that will slide right into a "classic rock" radio format so they can reach exactly the people they are not overestimating.

the person who is gonna buy a Nickelback CD, or go see them live, is like a single-mom who works at an auto parts place or some dude working as a roofer because he can't get into the Army with his record. They buy five CDs a year, and this past year it was Rihanna, Brad Paisely, Nickelback, maybe the Chili Peppers, and probably some disc they already had and lost somewhere. When they're rollin' in their 1997 Sunfires, the last thing they want to hear is Nickelback going off on some 13/8 ****-- they want something they can sing along to.

And f!ck, are there a lot of these people.

call me unsophisticated, but i personally enjoy them.

plus that tone is huge on that song. are they going straight in to rectifiers or are they running an OD in front?

did anybody ever hear those two nickelback songs combined? somebody panned two of their hits left and right and they're the same tempo, chord progression, etc. just diff vocal melodies and lyrics.

i personally think nickelback are the aural equivalent of thomas kinkade (CoG nailed it on the head). they sell jingles more than they write songs. doesn't mean their tone can't be decent, tho.

That's the bass player playing through a Peavey guitar amp for distorted bass tones.

I don't think their tone is all that special personally.

Kroeger can sing. I'll give them that much. So what if he's a businessman and chooses to become wealthy? Wouldn't you?

lol. amen to that.

i know people say you shouldn't sell out, but if i had the chance to get very wealthy while doing what i love, then why the hell not? lol. i guess i just have a different view of things than a lot of musicians.

I find the entire "selling-out" argument hilarious. At the risk of getting flamed (which is not my intention to piss anyone off), but... if it's that easy to write a song (or 20) that appeal to the masses and sell millions of albums, go ahead and do it! I'm not a Nickleback fan by any stretch, but any band/person who can crank out hit after hit (whether I like the music or not) deserves credit where credit is due. I'd love to be able to sell-out just one time and rake in the $ to fund my solo project full of music that appeals to me and about 7 other people :p

+1

I view it like a job. Those guys in Nickelback are playing music for a living, it's paying the bills (exceptionally well), it's their "job". I'd play in a Nickelback type band if it would let me comfortably make music for a living. Would it be my choice of things to play? No, I'm a metal fan. But I'd much rather play my instrument for a living - regardless of the genre I was playing - than have just about any other day job I'm likely to land otherwise.
