New Tubes

I figure it was time to retube my Mk V since it was 3 years old, and I did buy it used; I decided to try out some EH 6CA7 tubes instead of regular EL-34's, and it is a completely different animal!!

OMG. I am thoroughly, completely, and utterly madly in love with the sounds that are coming out of this amp with a fresh set of tubes all around! The 6CA7's are oh so tight and spanky! Each mode has a whole new vibe, and overall the amp seems MUCH louder. I can't stop playing!

If you like them, try a pair of vintage "big bottle" dual getter 6CA7s, aka STR416. New ones will last 10,000 hours and deliver the true 6CA7 flavor. The EH aren't bad, but aren't the "real thing".

Got some STR416... They run soooo hot in the MkV, beyond their spec in fact, about 120% (they should not be over 70%). The mkV is really hotter than any other Mesa amp, in the EL34 mode especially.
