Nice video and tones, I could never get my channel 2 Brit mode to sound as good as that video though I had to use a boost pedal on top of it to get what I needed. :(

They were smart not to include the channel switching with the lag and associated reverb swell if you had your channels setup a certain way. One of the primary reasons I sold mine...

With the Brit mode, just have the treble and gain turned up, and you should get pretty close...

I tried the EL34 thing but the novelty wore off pretty quickly. The amp sounded to compressed and congested with EL34's to my ears. SED 6L6's or TAD 6L6's sound great in my Roadster. Also and Tung-Sol reissue 12AX7 in V1 is very nice.

I like Raw mode a LOT (I use that for my channel 3 straight-up rock and roll distorted tone) especially in the context of live/rehearsal-level playing. There's a pure sense to the distortion here with both the tone and feel.

I too also have stuck with the 6L6s and find that the EL34s get too easily over-compressed IMO with this circuit. But I love EL34's - this comment is coming from a guy who was a longtime Marshall EL-34 player... for YEARS in fact (still love the amps but not really playing them any longer). But as for the Roadster again with the 6L6's I'm talking about use in a live/rehearsal level playing environment and in my case its also where the drummer is quite a hard-hitter.

For sure it's nice to have the options Mesa gives us though for tube switching.

just want to share a sample of my 3 channel sound of the roadster.
the amp is set to vintage, diode rectifier, 100 watt, loop active
presence set at 11, bass at 2, mid at 10, treble at 2-3 and gain at 2 o´clock.

for the singlenote part, i added the ZW-44 overdrive and delay from the g-major.

joe web:

Humorously, what you posted is usually my fail-safe settings for channels 3 and 4, and most especially in the vintage and modern modes of the Roadster.

I consider those settings to be the "optimum" for good hard rock tone. I actually like to keep the gain just a tad shy of what you listed. Lots of presence and bottom-end, with just enough cleans and mids to cut.

the point in the video where he demonstrates the reverb really bummed me out because my reverb has never worked. I'm taking it to a shop this next week. Luckily it is covered under warranty still. I wish they posted all the settings he used during the demo even though I think some of them are already provided in the owners manual.

that video was great, damn those things look tempting....

but I know how long it took me to get my sound with my recto, and being a little fanatical would mean that if I had a roadster...

I probably would end up spending the next two years tweaking my sound, and then I would probably go nuts and wind up in a high security mental facility locked away in a padded cell....!

hmm that was good...i might hold on to my roadster for a while longer.

I laughed when I read this. You were going to sell it, but then saw the video and now your going to keep it?

Have you spent time dialing it in?

yea. my speaker cab was the issue i just bought a new one that should be arriving this week. i realized i was going to keep it after i a/b'd with a mark v. I liked the five but the roadster is more my sound.

Speaker cabinets don't get enough press in my opinion. They can make or break tone, and you really need to get the combo of cab, speaker, and amp that work right with your guitar. For instance, I like the sound of an Orange Tiny Terror through a Marshall 1960a 4 x 12. As much as I have bemoaned G12T - 75s, they just work so well with that amp. Don't like that same 4 x 12 with an Electra Dyne, however. Cabs also make a HUGE difference. Hearing a G12m in a Peavey Bandit 1 x 12 vs a Thiele built of high quality 11ply void free birch is mind blowing. What I WANT to try is a Marshall 1960ax (100watt cab) with the Electra Dyne. I'd also like to run a 'Dyne with EL-34s or even a pair if Yellow Jackets that are designed to work with a simulclass amp. (If there is such a thing)

If you don't mind me asking, what cab did you decide to run with your roadster?

well the halfback was way dark for the roadster so i took my chances on a stiletto/traditional cab. I'm hoping the added mid bump from the v30s will get my tone where i want, for the longest time i didn't want to use v30s because EVERYONE uses them, then i realized that was a kind of childish mentality: like those people that dont like bands once the become popular and successful. plus if I don't like it I'm going to try a blend with the 2 EVM12L's i have in an X pattern.
