At least I think it's new!! Never saw it before!

I must confess, for a compressed YouTube demo, that came out surprisingly very good. I never actually tried vintage mode on channel 3 set at 50 watts as he showed. I think I will be trying that next, in addition to using channel 3 as a clean. Hmmm, the tonal possibilities. I am still mesmerized by my Roadster a year later!

Who do we like better so far out of the Mesa employee players? This guy or Marcus? I liked this guy's style, but Marcus just slays!

No doubt! I never use those setting either, but now I am thinking about incorporating his Raw voicing of channel 4. I find channel 4 a little useless for my own tastes, unless I'm using it for liquid lead work or for the Atlantic Blues setting via the Mesa Boogie Roadster manual. His Raw tone was very harmonically rich. The Tweed sounds very good, but I just can't imagine dedicating an entire channel to it. If I need that kind of crunchy bright tone, I will boost my Fat clean channel with my Fulltone OCD, at 18 watts!

Why buy a 3 channel dual for $400 less? This thing does everything and well. I've never actually tried a roadster yet (trying to stave off GAS) but I am suitably impressed with how convincing versatile it is! Awesome amp!

time to rebuild channel 2 again!! LOL
you got it. i´ve set my second channel to brit, but my sound is far away from that in the video.

btw. my channels are set like this for about two years now:
channel 1 = tweed (but not as much gain as in the video, so i get a very nice clean tone)
channel 2 = brit (but to fizzy and not that nice midrange like in the video)
channel 3 = vintage (gain set to 1-2 o´clock - my main rhythm sound - this is the sound i love my roadster for)
channel 4 = modern (set for nice lead-tone)
all channels set to diode and 100 watt.
maybe i´ll have to try 50 watt at channel 2.

Joe:

Try turning the gain knob up to the maximum level for starters. Then move the treble knob to full as well. Next, push the bass to noon, mid around 11:30, and the presence to about 10:30 - 11:30. With these settings, I am able to come close to his voicing in the video. You may have to boost the mids or bass up, in accord to your own guitar, cabinet, speakers, etc. This should get you close though. Also, you may want to dial down the gain incrementally. These settings should definitely get you in the ballpark, even WITH 6L6s.

I use a Fender American Deluxe Stratocaster HSS and a Port City Wave 212 on top of an Avatar Contemporary 212. My sound in channel 2 is awesome. I love it.

Good luck!

You've lost me there...

There are so many tastey tones in channel 2, I am always fooling around with it... but I never did find the tone he shows in the video.. he's using 6l6 in the video.. I am using el34s

thanks for that, i´ll check my settings tomorrow and maybe start over again on channel 2.
the mid knob does add gain when opened up more than 1 o´clock, that was a bit strange to me first....as said before, i´ll have to try some different settings again on that channel.

what i´m looking for on channel 2 is a classical AC/DC crunch sound.
the cabs i´m using are old marshall 4x12s with V30/G12T75 mixed in it. this cabs are awesome!

@YellowJacket:

i´m using EH EL34s since a year or so now. love that sound much more as with the 6L6s. put them back in a few weeks ago and played one or two hours, than changed back to EL34s.
with the dual recto solohead i prefer the 6L6, but with the roadster, the EL34s are the tube to go with.

Hmm. I always hear that EL34s are better sounding in the Roadster. I tried it, and still have my EL tubes. I must confess, I did enjoy the high midrange harmonics associated with the british tubes during gainy breakup, but not to the extent where my cleans are totally affected. I noticed, and was reminded in band practice, that my cleans were suddenly quieter than usual. This makes sense of course -- less bottom end, and less power. Still though, I don't find the 6L6s that undesirable. All this talk is making me consider switching back for a bit. Also, I only use Mesa tubes because I am under warranty. I always wonder about the hype concerning other brand tubes. EuroTubes has some very interesting Roadster Tube Kits available that have me wondering about the other possibilities associated with the Roadster.

Just get a matched quad of Winged C 6L6s, and you are set...

Nice video and tones, I could never get my channel 2 Brit mode to sound as good as that video though I had to use a boost pedal on top of it to get what I needed. :(

They were smart not to include the channel switching with the lag and associated reverb swell if you had your channels setup a certain way. One of the primary reasons I sold mine...
