Hi, just got the RK II Combo. I used to have the RKI Combo which sounded amazing. Now with the new RKII and using approx same settings, It does not sound as good as the "old" one. I sounds like a "box" somehow, no deepnes and no real presence..... hmm Do I need to break it in somehow?

Thanx

Pino

Found this on celestions site:

I'll try it out and keep you informed:

How do I break in my speakers?

Important Note! Before breaking it in it's advisable to "warm up" the
speaker gently for a few minutes with low-level playing or background hum.

Break in a speaker with a fat, clean tone: turn up the power amp volume
to full, and control the level with the preamp gain. Use a level that
will be quite loud, but not painful in a normal size room.

Have the bass and mid up full, and the treble at least half. On your
guitar, use the middle pick up position (if your guitar has more than
one pick up) and play for 10-15 minutes using lots of open chords, and
chunky percussive playing. This will get the cone moving, and should
excite all the cone modes and get everything to settle in nicely. The
speaker will continue to mature over the years, but this will get it 95%
of the way to tonal perfection in the shortest time.

I found that the reverb badly needed to be broken at first too. The springs are stiff and ugly sounding from the beginning and feedback too much. It helped a lot to switch to spongy for some reason.

You might want to upgrade your cables if you haven't done so too. Even those take time to break in.

Does the Roadking II combo have an open back like the Road King 1 combo?

I know the Roadster comes in closed back and ported, but I could not see anything on the RoadKing

This is probably obvious, but of course if the combo is closed back, you will have to adjust your settings as the old settings would not sound the same.

Hi, Yes the RKII is open back as well...

No esthetically difference at all to RKI.

Hmm

Mine do!! After about 3 years of hard playing, part of the connection usually gets "broken in"side the cable and it's time for a replacement.

Let's put it this way my friend:

Cables of low or average quality generally don't change substantially with age.

The choice is yours and the sky's the limit. Here are some resources:

hey when eq's do you tend to match treble with gain and mids with prescence. i tend to leave my mids real low and prescence above the mids slightly
