hey all

I'm a new dual recto owner. I'm really lovin the amp. Got awesome tones on my first real jam with it with my band and I know it will only get better with time as i get my head around it more . I've gone through pages and pages of posts here reading up and i see the newer heads not getting as much love as the older models but they kick some serious *** to me

I bought it with the mesa 2 x12 cabinet . my old amp thats dead with a smoked board has 2 x 12 16ohm V30's in it . so I'm thinking of getting my mate who has built speaker cabs for bands before to build me another . he has a bunch of plans from a local studio but he's never built a cab for a recto before . Any recommandations on what makes a good cab for a DR ? I'm sure he could copy the mesa 2 x 12 but It makes sense to me to voice it a little different than the mesa cab .

thanks for any info
Matt

I'd say based on certain choices of words that your not in the US. Mesa's site lists the dimensions. I'm not sure how available baltic birch plywood is, but I'm sure and 15 ply would do.

If I'm wrong and your in the US, I'd say buy one used. They are a dime a dozen and cabs loose value like no ones business. I bought mine for 325USD 3 years ago and it's dead mint with a leather cover.

thanks. lol I'm in australia

The only reason I'm building is that I have the 2 x V30's in a dead amp and my buddy is a builder/ carpeneter / muso and it'll cost me pretty much nothing . I dont really need. it. The 2 x 12 is pretty huge sounding

Its not a bad idea finding a cheap cab with bad speakers or something and swapping them out though

Why not try building a thiele 2 x 12?

There is another thread with plans available for such a project!

The thiele design is a tuned cab with a shelf and a front port which really yields a much more balanced tone. It really gives a tight and huge low end punch for the size and also yields very warm cleans. I would imagine it is a great complement to the closeback 2 x 12.
