hey guys!

in a few short weeks i will be purchasing a mesa boogie f-50 head, however i've yet to find a great oversized 2x12 cabinet,

i've narrowed it down to two, basically they're the same price, pretty much the same spec's and the same oversized foot print that i love,

The THD 2X12, http://thdelectronics.com/pdf/212cab.pdf

And the fender super sonic 2x12, http://www.fender.com/products/sear...rtno=2161200000

the main thing is that i haven't seen the THD cab in 6months, and i have a feeling that it will take a few months to order in (time i don't have),
i've played the THD cab and it projects very well, and sounds great,

i haven't although played the fender cab, has any had any experience with the super-sonic cab, or super sonic combo?

--------------------------------------

on a side note i live in australia so my choices in oversized cab's are a little limited,

thanks in advance,

pat

genz benz? really?

tell me more mate, i'm offically interested, how do the speakers compare to vintage 30 speakers (different versions of vintage 30's are found in the fender and THD),

any clips?

thanks in advancc,

pat

Look into the Bogner oversized 2x12. It's pretty big which is why it has the pros and cons it does. Pros, it supposedly sounds really big, closest thing to a 4x12. Cons, it's pretty big, not too much smaller than a typical 4x12. Not trying to persuade you otherwise, but what are you reasons for not looking into the mesa line (so maybe we can get a better idea of what qualities you're looking for and/or looking to avoid).

hey broken,

as for bogner, i think they may be a tad too expensive for me (but i could be wrong), i'm looking to spend $1,500AUS,

the main reason i don't like the mesa 2x12's is i prefer the oversized cabinets, i will be purchasing a new cab in the next three weeks, so i'm looking at the cabinets that will be avaliable for me to pick up on the day,

i.e: fender, THD (maybe), and now maybe genz benz (it would be nice to get a great cab for half the price of the fender (that would leave more money for guitar pedals :D , but i'm unsure how it will compare)

The Genz Benz have 75W Eminence speakers, which are very nice in the fact that they hold tight for the lower notes and sing for the highs. Yet the magic of the cabinet is in the porting. As you know Mesa's are capable of producing a low end that is almost unmatched in the guitar amp world. In order to keep the integrity of the amp one must seek a cabinet that will not give out on those low notes. This is what I have found to be true with the GB cabs. Several others will steer you to a Marshall or an Avatar, Bogner, Rivera, THD or even stick with the Mesa cab you originally got. Yet it's funny how they always end with... "I've never tried the Genz Benz cabs, but look at the..." If there is anything that I say to be of complete and impenetrible truth it is that the GB's are unbelievely awesome with Mesa's, So don't always believe what you read or hear from others unless you've experienced it for yourself first hand. Give them at try. You won't be dissapointed.

cool thankyou,

i will definitly try them out, i never even thought of genz benz before, so i thankyou for informing me about them,

cheers,

pat

thanks still for the help brokn,

i will at some point get a bogner cab, time is just an issue at the moment,

I just don't like the look of the genz benz stuff. It looks like it belongs in the back of some work van that has been transformed into a party truck. That would be my only gripe with it. Yeah I know, should i be worried about how it looks or how it sounds? But people are still spending triple what guitars are worth (IE gibson, PRS, etc) just for the look. I think they can make a conservative looking version of the same cab.

My recommendation would be for the avatar stuff. They make an oversized 2X12 cab that you can load with any speakers you want as well as get some custom options.

hey diss,

the main problem is i don't have the time to order a avatar,
i actually feel very much the same, about the looks of the genz benz g flex,
however i'm drawn to the fact that the genz benz has a flexed design, ports at the bottom and a many connection options (stereo etc), and also a tad cheaper than the other cab's i was looking for,

and with the money saved i could have the grill moded, (tan whatever), to change the look,

Are you kidding me, this thing looks like it hasnt been home for days, its a bad ***..

you struck the right chord buddie,

it's too bad *** for me, at the moment that is..... :D

Hey Guitarzan, how are the G-flex 4x12's? Does the 2x12 still sound HUGE? I am looking to get a bigger sound than i do right now with my DR and Marshall 4x12 and wouldn't mind the smaller cab if it sounds just as big?

The G-Flex 2x12 alone sounds huge like a standard 4X12. The G-Flex 4X12 is comparable to a Mesa Recto 4X12 but very tight on the bottom end. I feel air go past my jeans when I play that thing out. Serious air.

I am thinking of getting a 2x12 to try. I also wonder what it would sound like in correlation(sp?) with my marshall 4x12? Do they sound good elevated off the floor? Just because if i go with a 2x12 i will need to elevate it probably.

Yeah, i saw the one for sale, just not sure how long til i will have the money for it.

i'm just waiting to get paid, and then it looks like the genz benz will be my first cab :D

hopefully in the next two weeks, i'll be able to purchase everything this is the hardest waiting period i've ever come across,
