Hi,
You can get satisfying tones with an overdrive in front of your recto at low volume, both by using it as a boost (level maxed, gain min) or finding unity gain with the level knob and then tweaking the gain (less preferable). Of course not the same as pushing the amp and cab, but good enough to keep you inspired and enjoying your playing. I live in an appartment too, most of my playing happens at low volume and I love the real thing - I have a pod xt live as a backup that doesn´t see the light much often. I own 3 high gainers, a 2010 recto, a Mark V and a Marshall JVM. The Marshall and the Mark are superb low volume companions by their own, but the recto greatly benefits from the OD.
