I thought I'd introduce myself since I just joined. My user name is a text "picture" of the grill/headlights from '60s or '70s BMW 2002, which was my first car. I'm a full time student going for a BS in Mechanical Engineering. I play and record original songs in my apartment when I have time. I've had my Studio Caliber for about 2 years now. It's a great little amp as I'm sure some of you know - especially the speaker mute and recording out circuit. I used to work at Mesa about 10 years ago, but I never bought an amp when I worked there. So far, I've experimented with speakers and preamp/PI tubes in the SC. I've tried Ruby, JJ (AX7 & AT7), NOS GE 5751, NOS Philips 5751, vintage Telefunken, Penta. I like to use a matched and balanced 12AT7 in the PI spot, and a 5751 as a reverb driver. I threw out the OG Black Shadow speaker in there, and put in an Eminence Screamin' Eagle 16 I had laying around. That was obviously temporary (being 16 ohms). The Eminence really opened up the efficacy of the tone controls, but I ordered a Weber 30-watt British H-magnet with 55Hz cone, in May. It arrived yesterday and I installed it last night. It sounds much nicer now - sweet, balanced, organic.
Oh ya... so I play a Schecter C-1 blackjack with a Duncan Distortion in the neck, and a Seymour Duncan Invader in the bridge. I use an OCD on HP mode, dist turned all-the-way down and the tone at around 2 o'clock to get some bluesy break-up on the clean channel.
Nice to meet all of you
