I thought I'd introduce myself since I just joined. My user name is a text "picture" of the grill/headlights from '60s or '70s BMW 2002, which was my first car. I'm a full time student going for a BS in Mechanical Engineering. I play and record original songs in my apartment when I have time. I've had my Studio Caliber for about 2 years now. It's a great little amp as I'm sure some of you know - especially the speaker mute and recording out circuit. I used to work at Mesa about 10 years ago, but I never bought an amp when I worked there. So far, I've experimented with speakers and preamp/PI tubes in the SC. I've tried Ruby, JJ (AX7 & AT7), NOS GE 5751, NOS Philips 5751, vintage Telefunken, Penta. I like to use a matched and balanced 12AT7 in the PI spot, and a 5751 as a reverb driver. I threw out the OG Black Shadow speaker in there, and put in an Eminence Screamin' Eagle 16 I had laying around. That was obviously temporary (being 16 ohms). The Eminence really opened up the efficacy of the tone controls, but I ordered a Weber 30-watt British H-magnet with 55Hz cone, in May. It arrived yesterday and I installed it last night. It sounds much nicer now - sweet, balanced, organic.

Oh ya... so I play a Schecter C-1 blackjack with a Duncan Distortion in the neck, and a Seymour Duncan Invader in the bridge. I use an OCD on HP mode, dist turned all-the-way down and the tone at around 2 o'clock to get some bluesy break-up on the clean channel.

Nice to meet all of you :)

:D Welcome!

I had a Jackson Soloist Archtop with a set of Duncan Distortions, great pickups!
Nice amp too, I miss mine. Can't own them all though!

I currently have a DC-10 head that I use in the metal band and a Heartbreaker combo that I've dropped down to 40 watts!
Best 100 pound 40 watt amp I've ever blown my spleen out on!

Welcome!

Glad to have another Studio Caliber owner onboard the forum. Think I will have many things to share with you in the future!

Lets enjoy our amp!

Thanks

A Jackson would be nice! Yeah, SD makes nice pickups... I have a set of modded Phat Cats also.

If the HB combo is anything like the 2x12 Trem-O then I feel ya!

Thanks man. Cool, sounds good. :)

 After a speaker change, it weighs in at exactly 101 pounds! That's what the price guide says the T-Verb combo weighs!

I cut some recessed handles in the sides of the cabinet, just like the T-Verb has. Now it's much easier to carry!

Welcome! Love the user name. I used to drive a 1980 320i and my best friend had a mid-70's 2002 tii. Great cars - lousy AC. :D

Oh cool man... you don't need any AC or a stereo in a 2002, they're for driving on the twisties in nice weather and the engine is music to my ears!
