Hi
I had an Express 5:50 for a few years and it was brilliant but not loud enough on clean when playing with the band.
I recently purchased a Dual Rectifier Roadster 212 combo and yes it's loud, very loud.
But when I try for that smooth, Petrucci solo sound I get a lot of feedback and/or loud humming.
I'm using Diode and 100 watts on the back, Modern and bold on the front.
I loved the solo sound I got from the Express, lol. But now I've got the real deal, I can't keep the feedback down??
Clean, crunch everything else if fine.

I use 4 Les Pauls
A 57 Re Issue Custom Black Beauty - humbuckers
A Goldtop Deluxe - mini humbuckers
A 1960 Traditional Standard - uncovered Zebras
A Zak Wylde Aged Custom - EMG's
Yeah I can be a snob but they all sound different...... but they all feedback on the solo channel.

Help please......

The controls causing the most problems with squealing feedback issues are Gain, Treble, and Presence. Pros use much less gain than you'd think.
Or you have a microphonic pickup and/or pre-amp tube.
Or maybe you're standing too close to the speaker.

Without active pickups I guess it might be a tube problem, too much gain or you're too close to the speaker amp (as MrMarkIII said). You can try a noise supressor but it will only cover the problem and dont solve it.
