I think my Fifty/Fifty is truely a great piece of gear. I really like the dynamics the 6L6s has to my Plexi pre-amp with the exception of being really heavy on the lows and rolling off any highs.
Since I can't set the bias manually at all I guess I can't just put any valve in there with an expected desirable result. I'd like to know which valves you guys would choose for a lower bottom and more trebles without the chance of getting piercing tones.
[Bash along, but I mostly use Lace pickups and these don't go very well with EL34s IMO. Chance would have it I bought the 50/50 and really appreciated the ripping of the pickups through the mellownes of the 6L6s. Now I need less bass; to make the pickups more justice and to go better along with the G12M - G12H combination that will go into my 212 cab]
