So here are some new clips with a stock mesa config and JJEL34L power tubes. 2nd channel vintage with my PRS custom 22, Fulltone OCD and of course the Dual.

I apologize these are crap videos because I *still* haven't gotten anything better to record with on the fly. The tone is 100x better than portrayed in the video but this should give you a taste if you were curious about those tubes. The EL34L's have a really 'chewy' feel similar to the tite gain setting on the Stilettos but much more huge sounding and thick.

1) Snowblind

Tone way down on guitar, gain lowered slightly for a nice tight clip with lots of harmonics/sustain.

2) Random riff
http://platypus.memoryfire.com/random1.avi

Just noodling around demonstrating the 'saxophone' feel the gain has with just the neck pickup (alnico). The sustain and tone is just endless on this pickup, I love it.

3) Lemon Song
http://platypus.memoryfire.com/lem.avi

Real crappily done, apologies, this is the bridge pickup only with full tone.

4) The Drapery Falls
http://platypus.memoryfire.com/drapery.avi

Some high gain bridge pickup metal a la Opeth

5) Since I've Been Loving You
http://platypus.memoryfire.com/since.avi

I love how this clip shows off the sax sustain again with the first few chords before the chorus, this time with the the middle pickup position

Hope this helps some people hear what a DR can do with EL34s

are you the dood that has the rig IN the wall?! i cant really tell from the vids, but if so, that is SWEET

Yeah, that's me :p

I moved into this place and it had bookshelves, so I just tore them out and put my amp in.

I'm using the Vintage mode on it.

Yes, I am using an attenuator but at a pretty low setting, (-8dB).

Yeah it's very crunchy 8) The OCD really brings EL34 tubes to life

Not familiar with the OCD, what is it?

And are the tubes EL34s or E34Ls?

They are EL34L's

The OCD is a pretty transparent OD that doesn't chop off the highs and lows like a TS. It kind of has a midscoop to it so it works great with EL34 and EL34L tubes. I use it with my Orange with EL34's and it slays there too. It's a wonderful OD.

Very nice clips!

What can it do on channel 3 modern I wonder? With E34Ls of course!

It's mean dude, VERY mean. I'll get some clips of it. It's almost over the top it's so brutual... especially with my 7 string

I can imagine! The huge recot agressiveness, with a huge tight mid punch!

Can't wait to try mine out!

this is how the vintage mode was intended to sound!

Yeah, this is finally the tone I hear in my head when I think of how I want my guitar to sound. I'll get some clips of the Modern mode.. the neck pickup browns out so nicely now and the bridge pickup is like a knife, similar to how the stiletto sounds in my opinion

Hi Platypus!

I've have some ordered for my new roadster head; they should be here friday. How does it sound cranked? I have a 2x12 recto cab (and a 4x12 as well) like yours, but i get a real harsh tone (like "Braaap" when you hit a low cord/note) on vintage/modern when I crank it up. So far, it sounds better at low volume...no need for an attenuator :( .

Mine is cranked in that clip if that tells you anything. The EQ on the DR is really challenging to figure out so you might just need to try some new settings. Check out the settings part of this forum for some starting points.

Hope they sound good in the roadster, I'm sure they will!

Hey Plat

Got my new tubes today. Still trying to work the settings out. Can you share a couple of your setting you used in your clips?

Thanks
