Alright guys I play a lot of different music but mainly progressive metal/ thrash metal. I have owned a DC5 for years and while I love the amplifier I'm beginning to want something different in the distortion gain department. I'm keeping my DC5 no matter what but I want something that isn't as dark sounding and maybe a little more pronounced bass. Clean channel quality is very important. I write a lot of songs with clean parts. So I keep thinking that picking up a MK IV is my best route. But I like the idea of a dual recto which is like the high tones but how are the cleans on the reborn versions? And would the roadster fit my bill? I really like a petrucci type of crunch tone so MK IV might be my answer. Thoughts? Looking for some input

The IV has the best clean IMO. they have that round fender bouncy clean. I you love the DCs you should feel at home with a mark. The marks are more mid focused than the DCs and the gain is alot more grainy compared to the DC. But if you are just doing high gain rhythm work and not much lead playing a roadster could be good for you too - but they are kinda on the dark side as well. If you are doing alot of lead work, the IV is killer.

if you love the dc and are keeping it, i would go with the dual recto since you're looking for a different kind of gain. its clean channel (3 ch version) is really good for a high gain amp imo.

i have a mesa quad and a 3ch dual rect (pre 2010) and i love both - covers a lot of territory.

I've test driven the Mark V many many times (again just a few days ago, on all settings/secret settings I have acquired, head and combo) and it just doesn't do it for me compared to my Mark III honestly. I've got my Mark III dialed in to the IIC+ sound just as close as I could get the Mark V without actually getting a IIC+, and the Mark V was still lacking low end grunt on channel 3.

I would say a some sort of recto may be what you seek, sir. I am certainly considering it these days. Never fails to sound giant. Just add some boost, maybe an EQ.
