Sir's,
I bought my first Boogie back in 1995. A 100 watt, 2x12 Trem-o-Verb combo. Played in a rock/blues band with her for about 5 years, then we both retired. She's been covered and stored in my closet ever since. Now I would like to bring her out of the closet (?) and give it another try. I need to re-tube the amp. Can I use http://thetubestore.com/sba-mesa-3ch-dualrectifier2.html without harming her? do I need to let a tech do it? Do I have to use all Boogie tubes?
I need a little advice, help please. Been out of the scene so long ya know, thangs have changed...

Peace..

Bob

If the amp was running fine before you put it away, there is no need to re-tube it. Tubes do not degrade with lack of use. There are some other parts in the amp (electrolytic capacitors, used in the power supply filtering and a few places in the signal path) which can degrade over time when not used, and ten years is about the time when this may become a problem - but modern capacitors hold up better than vintage ones even in this, and there's a good change that they're fine.

If you're at all worried about it, it may be best to let a tech 'Variac' the amp up slowly - this allows the caps to charge up slowly and will possibly prevent a failure, but more importantly will allow him to monitor what's going on and shut off at the first sign of trouble, before any damage occurs.

Once you've got it running again and done some basic maintenance - it's possible that the pots and jacks, and maybe the tube sockets will need to be cleaned, for example, although if it's been stored somewhere warm and dry this is less likely - *then* it may be time to try some new tubes, but really only if you don't like the sound of it or want to experiment.

Mark III,
This is why I came to this board. I would have never thought of that, nor had anything to go by when calling a local amp shop. Thanks
