its the LOG tone I thought that sucked(not their playing ) ,, and I guess it kind of gave me a wrong impression about the amp...like you guys said its **** versatile thus it can do a ton of sounds

The loudest thing Ive tried is my friends JCM900, but have never gone beyond 2 on the volume @ his home....I do have a jam spot where I practice with my band on the Saturdays.

---So how high do you guys set your master volume when practicing with your bands?If the DR must be set way too loud to sound good then maybe the amp wasnt thought out all the way?

I want to record at home with the amp and play some gigs....I have no neighbors so that takes care of my worries about it being too loud...

this might be a handy feature cause when I cant sleep I sometimes like to practice.

Can the mark IV also use either 6L6 and EL34 tubes?
can the crunch channel be dialed in to sound like a Marshall or hot rodded marshall ?

do the leads come out better with a OD in front of the DR?

Ok as for master, I have my MASTER OUTPUT at 2.5 and the channel at 3-4 for band prac.

The Mark IV can have 6l6 in the middle and outer sockets or 6l6's in the middle 2 and EL34 in the outer 2. Now these can be run in 2 different ways.
In Class A only the outer tubes will work, so either 6l6's or EL34's. With SIMUL-Cass, both sets will be working, so either 2 x 6l6 and 2 x el34 or 4 x 6l6.

I myself have 2 6l6 and 2 KT77 (Like El34 but better bottem end) and it sounds pretty **** good. I switch to Class A for just KT77's sometimes to and this option is also footswitchable.

The Second channel RHY 2 (Crunch) can be marshally but still has that distinct mesa tone ofcourse.

The OD on front of the Recto will make a nice Recto Lead (Think Train of THought *Dream Theater* all done with rectos with boosts *OD*, but the Mark IV on its own still has a much nicer lead tone IMO *Systematic Chaos* (Dream theater again) and a few others around here, but that's what the Mark IV is known for most. It's Lead Channel.

Remember you also have the Assignal 5 band G-EQ XD

It's a toss up, but here is the fundamental sound found in
Dual Rectifier: lots of bass/lows, and lots of low mids. The cleans are average unless you get a roadster or road king. A rectifier excels at sounding fat and chunky. It does the nu-metal sound very well. It's more for big fat powerchords than it is for tight aggressive riffing. In addition, the solo lead tones are not very creamy or smooth. Many users (such as KSE) boost their rectos with an overdrive pedal, such as the maxon od808, to get the sound to be tighter and the solos smoother. Think of Godsmack or Linkin Park or KSE.

You're talking about the "Modern" setting right? Cause the Vintage and Pushed settings can definitely get creamy and tight (vintage) - and very articulated (pushed)

Interesting point about the power etc. But I have to give it to Trem. The Mark IV can be dropped to 30watts in Tweed, Class A and Triode modes XD
More cream ge at lower volumes by pushing the tubes earlier!
I know I'm sounding a little biased here but I guess these are some pretty important factors too. Then there is the (Cabinet and Head or Combo Mark IV) So yeh, many options there

There's a way to get a better room volume tone with a DR. With the loop active, turn down the loop's send pot to about 2 instead of running it high and than add a little bit of highs on the amp.

Actually, at those settings, it's 15 watts. Yes, it can still be loud, but the tone is surprisingly good in a relatively timid volume.

does it absolutely have to be a dual or triple rec.?

I'd have a look at the Trem-o-verb personally, but probably even harder to come by for you. On settings bold with silicon diode, turn back the bass a bit, i get an awesome biting recto sound. No pedals, no nothing. It's not a whole lot less tight then the Mark III section of my Quad. Although I do have that channel dialed in to be more of a lead AND crunch tone.
