NAD Mark V Combo!

So after having a Stiletto Ace since 2007 (and using my 5150III for the past 6 months live) I took the plunge and got a new to me Mark V Combo. I don't know if I am going to have the patience to dick around with this thing to play with my band (I want to but if I don't come close to my core Stiletto sound, or even the 5150 sound it throws the whole band off)

So I guess there is no point to this post aside from the fact that I want to brag about my new amp. . If I want to do live, I will just a/b it against my other amps to getthe sound right. I really do like the sound of the thing though. I love combo amps for some strange reason, but I am getting tired of lugging the Stiletto and the 5150,which are both 2*12 combos

Well enough of the rant. I like a really tight sound (think Journey Keep on Runnin), so if you guys have any good classic 80's rock settings please fire them off!

I thought it was New Amp Day. Hopefully I was right! If I could figure out how to post pics from my tablet I would.

So I am really digging this amp. At least for home use, it doesn't seem to be very hard to dial in. It probably helps that my tastes are pretty simple and I just want sparkling clean, a classic rock crunch, and Metallica . I've seen reviews where people have said that there isn't enough gain, but it seems to be perfect for my tastes. I love the Mark iic+ mode. I don't give a **** if it doesn't sound exactly like one. It sounds and, even more so, feels awesome. I actually like the feel better without the eq. I had a chance to push some air this afternoon and was not disappointed. I haven't even tried the other lead modes yet.

I know that I'm never going to get that Metallica sound perfect, but ****, this is the closest I've ever been (and ever need to be) , and it didn't take a hell of a lot of dialing.

I don't play clean much, but that it what I will be digging into first. I never really cared much for the clean on my Stiletto, and the 5150 iii combo has an odd take on what is considered clean. I love it, and my band members do as well, but it's tough to get a clean sound without it going into a clip overdrive due to the shared channel controls.

My biggest challenge is going to be getting the crunch mode right. I like for my crunch and lead to sound similar so there isn't a drastic change when switch channels. Using the sliders on both channels seems to be key to that consistency, but I am open to suggestions

Crunch mode sounds more or less like a lower gain version of IIC+ mode with a notch in the midrange. If you set both channel up with a similar EQ they're going to sound pretty similar, only channel 2 will sound a bit more scooped and saggy and channel 3 a bit more middy and in your face.... which IMO is perfect if you're going for a rhythm/lead setup.

It does feel like a holiday doesn't it? I've had mine for about a month. I've used it for 3 gigs so far and it's performing great.

Late to the thread, but congratulations on an excellent amp!
I have owned my MkV combo since it was first released and still love it!
OP, hopefully you have gigged with your MkV by now. IMO, the MkV is at its best in a live band situation....and not to say it doesn't sound good at home or in the studio either because it does. :lol:
