I played it Saturday night, everything worked fine .. turned it off.

Turned it on today, .. and nothing. ALl the tubes are lit up, the Fuse is intact .. have not changed anything in the back .. no knobs turned. Tried differant cab, and guitar .. ran setup through another amp for cable check and all worked ..

all lights are on, tried with and without pedalboard, fan on, cab selections, and loop selections all in the right spot.

just ZERO sound?

any ideas?

Weird.. you tried about everything I would have.

Let us know how it goes, hopefully nothing serious!

did you check the loop, i believe the new RKII's use series, so if loop is on and nothing in it, that might cause it.

I had a similar problem and it was something with the footcontroller. Try unplugging that and controlling the channels from the rotary dial on the back . Mine is a Series I. It was a problem with the Foot control logic.

Did you check to see if you had the cab select switches in the correct position ?

yeah .. I did all what you guys have recomended. Thing is, it worked last time I turned it on. I called mesa, and the tech suspected a bad 12AX7 .. so i am pulling/checking tubes now.

**** ... alot of 12AX7's in there.

I apologize for the earlier replys as i read your thread again and see you've tried everything I suggested . Remember . You paid lots of money for the amp and you have a warranty . I had to go through this but they treated me very well . I would call them myself rather than go through the dealer to makes sure you get everything taken care of to satisfy yourself . Then you will probably have to deal with the dealership to have it UPSed back to mesa . I would call Mesa artist relations ASAP

replaced all the 12AX7's ... still nothing. ****, i might get pissed.

I would let them know i'm not happy and ask them to get the ball rolling pronto then get in your dealers butt as well . Like i said you have a warranty and paid major bucks for that .

Well .. just now started pulling my tubes, and putting the stock mesa's in it for transport to the local "authorized" dealer ..

I missed a tube. There is a 12AX7 behind the transformer, unseen by the eye. I grabbed it, and felt the glass cruch a little .. White top, blown up, and glass was barely intact.

this happaned from cranking the amp past 4 for about 5 minutes. Blew the little tube to bits.

Maybe thats your problem ?

well yeah .. :)

.. now its working, but the amp sounds different. I lost 2nd channel, its all buzzy and lacks any volume. What pre amp tube on the RK is responsable for channel 2? the manual does not say .. I did swap pre amp tubes around after this, to no effect.

Definately going to take it in to a shop ..

Sound's to me like the Road King Series may still be the Achille's Heel for Mesa Boogie as far as "Reliability" goes! I myself am a little worried about my Roadster given the recent service announcement situation & what-not. Anyway, I feel for you man. My advice would be to send it back for a full refund & "Buy a Car" that you can drive off the lot and feel safe in for the next fifty years. Especially for these prices!

Hope it all works out for you bro.

peace,
-d

That sucks about your amp already having to go back. I would be pissed too. Hope everything get's worked out in a timely fashion. Keep us updated.

Ok you did not blow your tube up. There is no way in hell you could do that. The tube was damaged during shipping or during the trip to your gig. Tubes are glass, they are fragile, end of story. This can happen to any amp regardless of the price. I am just glad you found the problem.

If you are having problems with channel 2 it is mostly affected by V1 and possibly V2. It sounds like a tube problem to me but you could have damaged something with V1 going bad.

Do you have an authorized repair person in your area ? Make the dealer get involved in case you have any problems when the tech works on your amp .

I had the same problem.

The V1 runs normally and gets hot. When you shut it down the glass on the new Chinese 12AX7 is too thin and it cracks. Mine cracked in half like yours. After a new pre, she worked just fine. Now, I still use the Mesa Chinese 12AX7 and blew another one so now I let it coold down for ten minutes before I shut down. If your an opening act, you wont have time to do this. I remember the days where the stage manager would yell" If you don't have your **** off in 5 minutes, were throwing it out the back door".

oh yes it did blow up .. lol. It ctracked in half without me touching a thing except for the volume knob .. it killed 2 tubes. If it happaned during shipping, I would have noticed it right of the bat . .as it would have had NO sound.

I have swapped out V1 and V2 with some Chinese 12AX7's I had laying around, but channel 2 is still buzzy, with no volume. And the other channels sound a bit off. I will call mesa again today, and let them know the tube(s) blew up .. err cracked.
