My LSC is too good. Now with almost Recto levels of distort

I really want to buy another amp but the more I compare other amps with my LSC the more I am like why do I need another amp.

I was thinking that the LSC was a bit weak with high gain -coming in a little wooly. And I was about to pull the trigger on another amp. But now I've got a great taught monster gain tone. I have the mini toggle in the normal position Treble at 9 oclock, Mids at 12 oclock, and Bass at 8 o'clock. Both Drive and Gain pots are set at the max. Talk about pinched harmonics and howling sustain. Even with the low output PAFs in my Gibson CS 1960 LP gives me a monsterous gain tone.

Oh yeah and for the cleans I set the Bass Mids and Treble to almost off crank up the master to max and the gain to 11:30.

Talk about spank sparkle and bounce

Thanks for posting this; I have not always been 100% happy with the heavy overdrive on LSC compared to my Mkiic+. I will try this.

Would love it if others would provide their advice for great Lonestar lead sounds; especially mellower one's e.g. Robben Ford, Larry Carleton.

Let me know what you think of those settings. To my ears the LSC compared favorably with what I was able to get from the Mk IV. keep in mind that the Mk IV has so many tonal options that I'm sure in my brief time with that amp I only touched on a few

Note that I did retube my Lonestar with JJ Telsa's for both the preamp and drive stages some time ago.

It's really true that the active EQ is very interactive and can really alter the tone. Therefore I think you also have to use it almost like an active boost as well as a tone control.

I've had my LSC for about 2 years now. Lately I've been using a Goodsell 17. I just bought a Rev. Mantaray 290 and plugged her into my LSC/EL34's. I was rewarded with a fantastic tone. I'm gonna pull the LSC out for this weekend's gigs, although it's a heavy beasst, my back will give it up for tone. FWIW, after fiddling with the tone stack a gazillion different times, I have found that the "instant gratifacation" settings in the manual are spot on. I just set em up like the diagram, and let it fly, just adjust the output vol. Pretty simple.

Try setting the treble at 3:00 and drive set to thicker ... you'll get even more gain.
