Hello,

I had already a three-channel Dual Rectifier head.

Today arrived a new one, a two-channel Dual Rectifier head, wich I bought on Ebay Germany for about 1750$. It seems to have a very low serial number, R0162. I looked up on the internet and read about the first 500 holy grail Recto's and stuff...

Is my "new old" Recto one of these first 500 super-recto's? And if yes, is it worth much more?

Thx in advance...

The good news is that your Amp is one of the first 500 Dual Rectifiers...In fact, it is the 162nd Dual Rectifier ever created. As far as pricing goes, i think it depends somewhat on what options your Rec may or maynot have. For example, Pre-500's with the black chassis and the Aluminum Diamond Plate have been selling on ebay in the US for around $1,300. I think that one with a chrome chassis and black diamond plate would go for a little more. I don't think a Pre500 Chrome Chassis/Black Diamond plate has sold on ebay in a while, except for one that was broken that went for $2550 (but I think that was a fluke, and not a valid indicator of the current market on those blackface chrome chassis amps). But the price is rising. I know that a couple of members said they bought their Pre-500's for $900 a year or so ago. Hope this helps-

Hello,

Thank you for the answer. I just have the black chassis and an aluminium Diamond Plate. 1750 $ is fair enough for me, if I imagine what prices Mesa Dual Rectifiers are going for here in Europe. Paid my other three-channel including case 2350$ second hand.

But more important, what is the main difference in sound and construction with the later two-channels?

Yeah, I know that the Mesa's go for alot more overseas. Im not really sure how much a pre500 goes for over there. Maybe someone else on the board knows. To find out more about the specific construction of the early models, search for a thread on this board called "Rectifier Lineage." It will give you more info than I ever could. Let us know what you think about your new amp. I've been very happy with my Pre-500!

all I need to say is two things:

You have one of the best amps ever. If you ever sell it, do not consider yourself a guitar player! Lol. A little harsh...just kidding.......not really.

Secondly, if you like to solo, leave the presence flat. If you like rhythm, this amp is very bright and I suggest you knock the presence down to about 9 or 10 oclock.

congrats.you now belong to the pre500 clan.

although not having a pre500 (mine is 800+) i do have the pre500 trannys and definitely this dr is warmer.

like elpelotero said. setting it to flat sounds good already. selling my tremo now...

Here are some images of my Rectifier that is about to be sent to me today...

I see that there are no voicing options par channel like clean/pushed and raw/vintage/modern, is that right?

I do also notice that the preamp valves aren't shielded like the new Mesa's... Doesn't cause that hum or feedback???

Nice state though for this amp...

Bart

the owner at some point took out the shieldings. I think my rectos have slots for the shieldings, but they're missing also.

THe vintage/modern knobs are on the back.

I've noticed that some Rectos use a 2 amp fuse and some use a 4 amp fuse. This particular one is a rev C and takes a 2 amp yet mine takes a 4 amp. I wonder why that is?
