I don't know how many of you realised, but mxtabs.net the online guitar tabulature giant is closed down :( i thought the site was hacked but it was forced to close, this is bullshit in my eyes. Even with these free alternatives i sometimes purchase music books, and now that it's closed down isn't going to increase my purchases.

What do ppl think about this. Ive read over the internet that l;yrics and tabs sites are goign to be closed down, for copyright.

Soon they air we breath are going to be owned by someone and we will have to pay them. How is it the words we speak our very language is copyrighted (lyrics)

I actully support downloading MP3's, alot of ppl disagree, but i don't like paying high prices for a record company to get richer and richer, hence i'll support the band by seeing them in concert, buying merchandise at the concert (very rarely)........
however this isn't mp3 downloading, by taking sites down of tabs and lyrics, it's going to make it harder for youn kids, or new ppl to guitar harder to get started.

What do ppl think about this????
I'm sorry to winge but it's really distressing for me, imagine if this site was closed down becuase we were disscussing how to get artists tones out of our boogies....

I think Tab sites help advance our art. Used for study, we all learn more from them.

As far as the copyright Nazis, I think they are wrong about tabs...even if you learn the song from the tab, and go perform it in some club for money, the copyright giants BMI and ASCAP are charging the clubs a fee already to have live cover music....by trying to charge the Tab sites or shut them down sounds like they are trying to get paid for the same thing twice.

As far as MP3s go, I download...but if I like what I hear, I will buy.

i think its really bull_shit, i very rarely use tabs so it doesnt affect me, but still, people will think of anything to make more $$ it pisses me off!

is it the actual artists who are banning the tabs or is it the labels? because the descision should be up to the artists, i doubt that all the bands are afraid of people working their songs out.

what if i work a song out by ear? then their going to have to ban music to avoid copright infringment.

Yeah, it is pretty much crap that the tab sites are getting shut down over this. It's people like the Music Publishers Association that are behind this.

Here is a petition to get them to lift the ban on tabs.

this is BS. its the MPA (music publishers association) thats doing it. the artists are probably mad at them too; i mean come on, a lot of them probably learned through tab and not to mention the fact that an overwhelming majority of those tabs are wrong anyway.

Thats exatly it, i wonder how many of these artist learned from tabs, playing there favourite bands. I very much "dought" most artists woudl care. I know bands that publish tabs on there site, AFI comes to mind they have tabs onthere site, i mean comeone its so stupid.

If this was the case 5 years ago i dought i woudl of stuck at guitar, i would be a drummer now or somthing LOL, or back to the old panio (i played for 11years) hahahha
But yeah seriously tab's is the starting point for most guitar players.
This sucks :(

talkin' about p2p mp3 download...Isn't it a crime to sell cds at the price of 40$????i think it is...i come from italy and here cds cost too much...if they costed less, probably a person interested in an artist/band would even proudly buy a cd... a suggestion for some nice tabs websites:

www.tabcrawler.com
www.mysongbook.com (guitar pro!!!)

The people running these music/publishing companies have no clue on how to best leverage the Interneet and in the long run it will be their down fall.

Mxtabs is back online, they voluntarily shut down for 2 months as a sign of goodwill to the MPA
