MXR Overdrive + Mark 1 mode.

I just took my V into the shop to see why the hell my reverb isn't working, and while there I tried out an MXR GT-OD with the Mark 1 mode.

All I can say is Holy ****! It makes this mode so much better. The gain you can get sounds better than any on channel 3 in my opinion. It also has a tone control so you can roll off the bottom end (and still use the EQ sliders for channel 3).

I am definitely getting one of these to use with channel 2. $90 on ebay.

I am not phased where I buy it. As long as my best friend at my favorite store which rhymes with chilli fried gives me a good deal.

I'm gonna get a little righteous here...sorry...but if you tried it at the store, you should at least try to buy it at the store. I think that it's really sh!tty to use the store that way.

Remember, the posted price at the store is not the only price that they'll sell it for. If you like the pedal, you should say something like "Hey, this is a great pedal, but i can get it on the internet for $90 + shipping. I'd prefer to buy it from you. Can you sell it to me for $100? ". They'll either agree or they'll turn you down.

If they agree, then everyone wins and the store can say open.

If they say no, then go to buy it from the Internet and the store might end up closing...but at least you gave them a chance to get your business.

It's called free enterprise. Works great.
(I'm assuming that the $90 pedal on eBay is brand new with the factory warranty, etc. If the eBay pedal is used, well, that's a different story.)

I'll see if I can get them to match the price. The thing is I have spent $7000 on the Head, Quad and pickups. The head retails here for $5999 so I have paid a lot more than everyone in the US.

Look at the exchange rate and tell me that I haven't paid a lot already.

I'm running out of money to spend on my rig. If I can't get the pedal for under $150 I won't be able to get it. The pedal is selling at the shop for $270.

If you can get it cheaper on ebay, why not get it through ebay? People will go where the good deals are.

If your music store closes, then you have nowhere to try new equipment to see if it's got your kind of sound. If your music store closes, you have nowhere to buy new strings or picks or cables just before your gig. If you your music store closes, you've got nowhere to take your equipment back to when it doesn't work.

There are lots of reasons to buy from your local store. I'm not saying that you MUST buy from your local store...I'm saying that you should give your local store a chance. If you saw a good piece of gear at the local store, if you tried out the gear at the local store, maybe you should at least give the local store a chance to sell you that piece of gear. Offer them a price that seems fair to you. If they don't take it, too bad for them.

Many people give them a chance. How many of you have shopped at a guitar center and left really upset that you gave them any money? Sometimes I go there just because they have some things that other stores in the area don't, however I will never spend another dollar there because they're a bunch of tard holes. Their business will do decent because many people still shop there, but those of us who are sick of GC's will support the smaller, friendlier, and more personal businesses.

Before you spend money on a pedal, try out the MkI settings at the end of this thread. They were done with a LP through EV thiele cabs, with output level at 12 o'clock. FAT and creamy lead tone, for sure. Warning: This is not bedroom volume. :twisted:

Since I work at eBay I am going to sit this argument out... who am I kidding, I'm in!! Buy it where you feel the most comfortable, by all means!! For some people, getting it at a low cost is the idea. For others, paying a little extra to make sure you are dealt with honestly and can return it if you don't like it (not just if there is a defect) can be well worth it. Developing a relationship with your local music store is something that isn't as prevalent as it once was. The benefits are high; cost savings, free advice, favors ranging from staying after hours to try out an amp at loud volumes to lay-away's to returns to better trade-in values are all things that I have received from my local music store. Sure, from possibly paying a couple bucks more for things, but everyone is happy at the end of the day. The peace of mind I get from buying a big/expensive piece of gear locally is worth it to me just for the stress. At the same time, saving some cash on a used pedal online gets the juices flowing. Do what you want, it's your money!
