How about this tube? Do you think it would it be a good choice for a Studio Pre (used as reverb circuit driver - V5) if compared, for example, with an EH? Thanks

I recently purchased a balanced Mullard 12AT7WA (from Doug's tubes) for the phase inverter in my Mark IIC+, and so far I'm loving it! It took a bit of the (unwanted) edge from the amp, and made the gain more organic sounding. I don't play metal so I don't need the real high gain.

Here's a thread that has plenty of great tube info. You'll need to read a bit, but it's well worth it. The members involved are very knowledgable.

Enjoy!

thanks dodger. I suppose your C+ had a 12AX7 for PI? How does the 12AT7 for PI affect the amp gain since it's placed right before the poweramp (correct me if I'm wrong!) and after all the preamp gain stages? I thought it just drives the poweramp a little softer

The AT7 does drive the output a little softer than an AX7,by way of the lower amplification factor, but the AT7 has a lower output impedance that affects the way it drives the power tube grids as well.
