I recently moved across town. I was able to keep my same phone #. But check this out ...

The phone company had the phone line switched over the day I called by the end of the day.

The DSL however took nearly 3 weeks to go less than 3 miles. Everytime I called noone seemed to know anything. Turns out that the order for service was never placed by the phone company's representative. So after a long awaited line migration of a week, I sat for 2 more weeks while they figured out what the case was. Then they figured out that the line was still active at the old address and that I had no service at the new. I could tell them that I had no service because the modem wasn't seeing any signal but for some reason they couldn't just turn my line on at the new address without disconnecting at the old address. It got really frustrating. Then, I had to re-establish the order. Finally, I got hooked up but they didn't even offer to reimburse me for the amount of time that I wasn't receiving service. I had to ask for that.

I think that next time I might have to start the process a little sooner or just switch to cable.

I guess that the upside is that I am not too far from the substation so I get decent throughput. Considering that the ceiling for my connection is 3Mbs and I am getting 2.5+ when the floor is 1.5 I cannot complain too much. I had reservations because I moved to a more outlying part of town that I thought may not have the greatest signal due to older telephone lines.

Now if I could only figure out what boxes my stuff is in. I was in such a hurry packing that I wasn't too organized and stuff got packed as it was convenient and fit in the boxes. I mean, I know where my amps and guitars are but things like cables and picks are eluding me. Also, my desk is too heavy to get upstairs so I am now sitting on the floor temporarily until I can either dismantle the desk enough to get it upstairs or get a new desk.
