Hi to this excellent forum, I have just acquired a MK1 Mesa Boogie A serial 71-78 and I was wondering if anyone here could tell me if the speaker is original or not.
I love this amp and it sounds awesome but it's bugging me whether this amp and speaker were married together when built.
Cheers guys,
Grant

Based on the number on the back, that speaker looks like it could be an Eminence.
Fwiw I thought Mesa used Altec and then JBL's in early amps.
But they have used Eminence quite often as well. So perhaps that an early Eminence model they used.

Thanks for your help, I sent some pictures to Mesa Support and within 4 hours they replied with this.

Hey Grant,

Well… I’m not sure how much help I’m going to be.

There are definitely some cool things going on with your amp. The all world transformer is really nice and there have been several modifications (the green Dymo tape) that wouldn’t have been done at Mesa. The speaker code reveals that it is an Eminence speaker from then 14th week of 1977. That was the stock speaker in MK1's, unless the buyer chose to upgrade to JBL or Altec.
