You can get an actual old-school Dual Recto for about that much coin... these new mini-rectos and rect-o-verbs are disappointing. You simply cannot get the sound of a recto from these builds. Shame on Mesa for even producing them to make a buck off of their former glory.
Recto....old school? Former glory? You do realize that Mesa was making Mark series amps for 20 years prior to introducing the Rectifier series, right? To people like me the Recto is anything but "old school".

I'm actually a bit perplexed at the use of the Recto name, but for completely different reasons than you. See, I think it's an insult to the Mini to be saddled with the Recto name to begin with. The Mini has much more of a vintage vibe and sounds much better than its bigger progenitors.

The moral of the story is, as always, different strokes for different folks.

By "old school" I was referring to the old way of manufacturing. The Mark series were made like the older Rectos. Now they're built completely different. And yes, they do sound different, so they should have their own line, IMO... You seem to be forgetting that the Dual Recto Solo Head is probably their best selling amp of all time, if not the Mark IV. So, it's clear to me that they're trying to use that in promoting these new lil tykes.

Ahh... I get it. I thought you were just bitching about this being a mini amp but I think I'm picking up what you're laying down. The first amp was called a "Mini-Recto Twenty-Five 25" whereas this new amp this new amp is called a "Dual Rectifier Rectoverb" when it 1) doesn't have dual rectifiers and 2) isn't a Dual Rectifier.

Well, sure. Using the "Rectifier" name in the first edition Mini Rec was an obvious marketing ploy, too, which I found odd and somewhat disturbing considering that, to me, anything that didn't have the "Boogie" name on it wasn't a real Mesa - but it didn't stop me from buying something that is pleasing to my ear.

Whether or not it's "unethical" or that Mesa should feel shame for further capitalizing on their own brand, meh, it's just marketing. I could care less. If it helps them sell amps, stay in business, and keep people in the US employed I'm all for it. You obviously are bothered by it, but your real Rectifier doesn't sound any worse because Mesa co-opted the name to sell some new ones.

Don't worry, though. The lil tykes aren't going to steal the thunder of the big iron. I mean, they can't, right? Surely, nobody who's into big iron is going to buy one of these little toys, certainly not as a substitute or a replacement for a real amp...

This is certainly a pedant's dream to quibble about these details but there is a good point here. It should be the Mini Rectifier Rectoverb - 25.

I'm with Kiwi-Joe in that my manhood doesn't feel threatened because my big amps share a name with a little amp, but I do find the decision to call a Mini-Recto a Dual Rectifier kind of curious.

Not that I'm going to let a name stand in the way of me trying one out.
