Maybe this thread its already around this forum, but I thought it will worth to bringing in it any ways...

Have any of you already tried both of the mini boogies around (mini recto and mini mark v)?, if yes, what are the main differences between each of them?
To which styles of music can they be sut it each of them?

I own the mini recto and I am love with it, still I am always wanna to have a mark V, and now that is available as a mini I might be able to afford it. before i pull the trigger I would like to hear all recommendations as possible

Any advice will be very welcome :mrgreen:
 
I have both, love both. They each have their own sound which the other cannot duplicate, BUT, each can be used for any kind of music as well.

So they overlap, but don't overlap.
 
Just see any of the countless "Recto VS Mark" threads on this forum and the comparisons will hold true to the mini versions also.
 
Main differences (other than tone) are that the MV25 is bigger, comes with a cover instead of a bag, has the GEQ which is footswitchable, has built-in cabclone, has reverb, has a cooling fan, and has WAY more gain.

The Mini Rec is easier to dial in, easier to change tubes.
 
To my taste the mini rec has too little gain and I do really need more for what I play.
It’s good to hear the mini mark v has more gain; this is definitely a plus to me. Size wise, I do not care much.

by any chance do you happen to have something recorded with your mini mark v and able to share?, I would like to hear it. I also heard the cooling fan on the mini mark v is too noisy and cannot be turn off, is that a true statement?,

You won't do better than the clips Mesa has on their youtube site.

As for the cooling fan, I have no idea why it's been controversial. It is not silent. But it is not super loud, either. When I play even at bedroom volume, I don't hear it. With my band it is no issue at all. If you are recording with a mic at extremely low volume you could probably pick it up. But why not either use the cabclone or move the head somewhere else?

Well, you have to look at how I'm using it. I run the gains at 10:00-11:00 on both. The V has WAY more gain at that setting. At about 1:00 the V gain saturates and doesn't seem to give me much more, just gets mushier. The MR does have more gain as you dial up. Still, it seems to stay a bit clearer than the V at higher gain settings.

I cannot imagine a universe where the amount of gain available in "Modern" with the gain dimed on the Mini Rec is not enough. Since such a universe apparently exists, just stick a Mesa Throttle Box, a boost, or a TS-type pedal in and slam the sh!t out of the front end. Problem solved. It's cheaper than buying a new amp.

I think this probably tends to fall into two main categories:

1. People moving from solid-state to tubes. There is way more gain on tap in a Spider III, but not so much tone.

2. Wanting more gain with a specific tone. This is tricky, as "more" tends to wind up mushy. Pushing the front-end is often the only way to get there. Also, I like Vintage mode more than Modern, so I don't get the extra stage. Of course I'm using like 15% of the gain even in that mode.

You and me both, and I use even less gain (like around 9 o'clock with the master around 3 o'clock) than you (although I remember our conversation a while back where I think you said you're using a Tele). I've gone the other way, having just stuck a 12AY7 in V2 to soften up the OD a bit and made it a bit rounder and more "open", less compressed. Now a set of low-wind pups will be icing on the cake.

Seriously, though, there is still waayyy more gain on tap than I'll ever need, but the point where it comes up on the pipe is significantly higher than before, and there's a wider range of adjustment available below that point.
