You'll want 6l6s for that tight low end response. I find the El34s sag the low end too much and rob it of it's deepness.

I personally find El34's to be tighter, but I do agree that the 6l6's have a very deep bass response

I would say that the 6L6 gives you more thud than an EL34. EL34's tend to give more chug than thud.
