Hello.
I am a new owner of mesa boogie dual rectifier roadster head :)
Head is awesome, but metal palm mutes are... soft, unconcrete... just ugly

I want any boost, but I dont know which... Ts9? maxon 808? Or? Which is the best for metal tones with recto head?
What is used for "kick" dual rectos in studios?

Thx rectomaniacs 8)

I use a Maxon od 808 and I find that it works really well, helps to tighen up the sound. You always just try a few and see what you think.

Good luck

Dude try a cheap Arion Tubulator.
I have tried a Keeley TS9 a modded SD-1 and a few others.
For the $15.00 the Tubulator sounds amazing.
The Tubulator is a TS9 clone.

I just got a Maxon OD808 for my RK 2 and it definitely sounds better on CH 4 (i.e. for a metal sound). I put the Level at 7-9 o'clock, the Balance at 5 (maxed), and the Tone at 7 (all the way down). It made it sound less muddy, palm mutes were tighter, and you can kick the gain up a notch with the Level control, which also makes pinch harmonics/etc. easier. I recommend it -- and if you don't like the pedal you can always sell it on eBay for almost what you paid for it!

There are two pedals that work GREAT with the Roadster IMO...each gives a completely different sound.

-Maxon OD808....crunchier in the mids...sharper and more abrasive.

-T-Rex Batio Overdrive...this one if a much cleaner boost...it doesn't put the typical tubescreamer midboost in there, but tightens and compresses without alter the tone. Bigger in the lows and smoother in the mids and treble. I prefer this one, but it's a different tone.

the 808 or the TS9. Whatever one you can find the best deal on. The TS9DX works great too and can be found at a steal.

if you do not want that overly compressed Killswitch tone use a Seymour Duncan pickup booster, it will add up to 32 Dbs of clean gain. really fattens up your sound. Super Beefy. The guitar player for Bane/Only Crime uses one if you wanna hear it.

Pat O'Brien from Cannibal Corpse (as well as myself) uses a Boss Metal Zone as a boost. I'd borrowed one off a buddy a long time ago, and when I decided to boost my amp, I didn't have enough $$ to buy an actual overdrive or clean boost, so I figured, what the hell, and tried it. Personally, I'm pleased with the outcome. I know a lot of people don't really like the Metal Zone, but they do double as a surprisingly good boost, IMHO.
