LDR act like a switch. it's resistor has a huge value (about 50Mohms), so it's like an opened switch. But when the LED (part of the LDR) is on, resistor value drop to zero (closed switch). It replace a switch or relay without having to open/close "noise".

I am about to get my Quad recaped tomorrow by a professional electrotech at my work. Nothing wrong or trouble with my Quad, it do sound good and everything works. But I think it would be a good idea to replace those large caps after more than these 20 years. Bought it a year ago.

2 x 220uF 300V
4 x 30uF 500V
and 4 x 220uF 63V

He had not much time , but promised he could solder in the biggest caps I have ordered from F&T and Sprague. And I was told to give him some working space and open it so that he had best access to the circuit board.
My plan is to remove all the rear jack connectors, so that I can just angle the circuit board so that he can solder in the caps from the side under. I hope we dont need to cut and resolder any wires..
I also happened to see that the circuit board says 1D, and 1986. Meanwhile on another place on another component (reverb tank?) says Mesa 88, and some signatures I cannot decipher. Maybe a tune-up then?

Any tips regarding this ? How to get the pilot light unscrewed?

Thankfull for any help guys!
