Out of the 4 GC's within driving distance (under 50 miles) of me, 3 of them sell Mesa Boogie. I bought my 4x12 cab from the Canton store. The salesman could have used quite a bit more schooling in Mesa products because at first, he told me the cab (new) did NOT come with a cover. I thought "hey dude, I'm on their website at least once a week and have seen otheres (here) with pics of their new cabs WITH COVER." So maybe his next step was to try to sell me one for an extra 90 bux.

I ended up with everthing i was supposed to; cab, cover and casters.

Well, I went to my nearest music store (not GC) and told the manager about GC's selling Mesa's online. He went to the GC page and found some amps at prices identical to his, and a few a little higher. Does Mesa set (or attempt to set) its retail amp prices?

Yes. Very strictly.

Everyone can see that Mesa is changing there policies, and it is because they backed themselves into a corner. The new policies of course are selling online now, and allowing more stores to sell there product.

The main reason for this is, anyone that has there eyes open in the music scene knows that there is a backlash on mesa right now, unless you are a hard rock/metal band, most bands are trying to get away from mesa boogie. And of course the main two music scenes that are stealing the airwaves these days are indie or punk rock and R&B/Rap.

Now this is where the problem comes in, when people think of mesa they think recto, and this is the tone that the current popular music scene is trying to get away from. The problem is they dont understand that mesa has so much more to offer between the Mark IV, Mark V and of course the stiletto, the stiletto being the closest to the sound they are looking for.

So what is killing mesa is the fact that one, they are known for the recto tone and dont push their other products enough, and two even the groups that would use the recto have so many more choices now between Framus, ENGL, peavey etc...

So in the long run mesa is not selling as much products like they use too, dont believe me go into a mesa dealer and you will see the recto's hardley being touched, I know the GC around here cant unload them worth a ****, and of course they are too stupid to get in a stiletto or Mark V to show the public there is much better choices.

I believe there price policy is they have a minimum, however stores can sell higher if they choose.

GOOD! More for me (or us) when they go to unload them used.

A problem I see is that playing through a Mesa is a bit like piloting a 747. You don't just "plug and play" or "climb in and go". I like to shop at music stores where the sales personnel are musicians who can show me how to use a product -- especially a Mesa. At our local GC, I don't think any of the sales personnel play anything.

I think alot of it comes down to age, most people in my GC are young, well because as you get older you dont really aspire to work at GC. Anyway with that being said, up until I turned 30 I never really knew much about guitar equipment, i played my axe through my amp that sounded best to me, who cared about any others....
